Jane, the same thing happened to me tonight...I live in the Tampa area too (Odessa) - I put a lot of salt in the pool because the indicator was flashing LOW SALT - it kept on saying that and I know I put in enough salt - I'm cleaning it out like I did last year - soaking the unit in white...

It took me a while to figure out how to do the siphon thing too! It was a learning process for me as well. I found a video on Youtube on how to start the siphoning process, tried it and it worked!

My way of getting rid of silt is pretty easy, when you vacuum the pool SLOWLY, use the siphon method.....it all goes right out........you lose very little water and you can add it back in if you like.

Thanks Taterfink! Thanks to your advice, I got rid of those nasty copper stains....now for this rainy Florida weather we've been having in my area, ugh! Today seems to be ok. Might take a little dip :-) Hope all is well in your neck of the woods!

Sounds like you're getting back on track, pool is up and running, any upgrades can wait. I got laid off too, after over 15 yrs of working in the same place and I've had to prioritize a few things in my life too. Enjoy your pool for now, things will fall back into place slowly. Good to hear from...

An update to this ongoing battle....I purchased another vacuum, the kind that attaches to the pump intake..and vacuum to waste (not connected to the pump but siphon out of the pool) and that works the best! That takes ALL the debris directly out of the pool. That larger hose and good siphoning...

My swg and pool pump are both covered with plastic containers to protect them from the sun, harsh weather and pool water splashing. I unplugged mine and everything seems to be fine. Thanks again Taterfink for that advice! Here's a little peek of the pool...been filled since May 2012. IMAG1466...

My copper stains are lifring slowly after I dumped 2.5 gallons of white vinegar in my pool...I unplugged my copper plug...that helped too. It's an ongoing process. I was afraid of algae so proceeded slowly. I want to avoid putting harsh chemicals in the pool. I just took this picture and wanted...

My question is...why did they put those copper bars there in the first place? I want to disconnect them too, but I'm afraid that it'll mess up the chlorinization and clarity of the water.
