Drain pool and leave empty before refinishing?

Thanks RObbie, good to know...I was actually not even thinking of pool floating up, I read that the water table here in AZ is at 600 ft! I was more concerned if the sun exposure could do damage to the gunite somehow...

Drain pool and leave empty before refinishing?

In Arizona and need to refinish plaster pool. Plaster is in bad shape and probably really old. Going with pebblectec. Also not going to be using the pool till next season due to travels. So was wondering if there would be any problem with draining it now and then refinishing next April in time...

Pool deck drainage? what do the channels do and how? Pics included

Thanks for the link otter. That is useful. My concern is that the trim a slab will still have small gaps and maybe shrink in the sun. With the caulk, I imagine one can go over it...

Pool deck drainage? what do the channels do and how? Pics included

That makes sense. I wonder why it was not just left open like the rest of the patio. What are you thinking of using to fill them in, I have used self-levelling poly urethane caulk. That has worked well but there is one location where I see it is starting to separate.

Pool deck drainage? what do the channels do and how? Pics included

I have these plastic-covered channels all around my pool. Most do not lead anywhere, they just run into more concrete. They are covered channels that are double deckered. So a shallow square channel over a deeper v channel (see pic 2). I am in AZ, we dont have much rain. We do have scorpions...

My findings on how not all sand is created equal

Just reporting back. My laterals measured about .45 mm (Hayward S244T old screw in style laterals). But I could force a .55 mm feeler through without much effort. Additionally, when I pulled my laterals out there were many sand grains already wedged firmly in the lateral slits. This cannot be...

My findings on how not all sand is created equal

Wow! thats some good information JamesW. It makes sense that Hayward would specify the smallest size, to prevent smaller grains from entering the laterals. Though just looking at the larger grains in the pictures posted here. A lot of those grains are much bigger than 1 mm. So I don't think...

My findings on how not all sand is created equal

Huh! thats interesting and frustrating. Thanks for the info Divin Dave My Hayward ST244 manual has the following line "Use only High Rate Sand No. 20 Silica Sand (.45mm - .55mm)". Unless they are referring to radius, I will write and ask them and report back. It could explain why ~ 300 lbs of...

My findings on how not all sand is created equal

Thanks Duraleigh. That's what I figured too. The part I cannot reconcile is, based on the photographs the larger grained sand looks much bigger than the .45 - .55 mm size that is usually recommended. So should't the sand grains be smaller and in the .45mm to .55mm range? Also, US # 20 sieve...

My findings on how not all sand is created equal

I'm having trouble understanding this here. Can someone help me out, thanks! My manual says the sand should be #20 (.45 - .55)mm. The HTH sand in the picture looks huge. Definitely most grains are not sub mm. Am I reading this wrong? Also, this Wikipedia page...
