    What's your current pool temp?

My pool water just hit 68° - the warmest so far this season - woohoo! We've had a really cool season so far this summer in Michigan (high temps barely into the 70s, lots of rain and barely any sun ever), so the pool has stayed around 65° max. Our furnace came on in the house two days ago -...

Baquacil to Chlorine Conversion - Questions

I just finished my Baquacil conversion last week, and I had absolutely NO goo during the entire process - none! I also thought I was doing something wrong, but the conversion is completely done, water is gorgeous, and I'm enjoying swimming in a beautiful pool. I guess some pools just don't...

Never had this much trouble trying to get the water to clear after opening

If you can't get anything else to work, one thing you might try is going back to the original Baquacil system (before CDX came out). I used Baquacil for 15 years with my pool, and the only year I ever had problems was the year I switched over to their "new and improved" system (called Baquacil...

Never had this much trouble trying to get the water to clear after opening

Yes, saltwater pools on cruise ships are salt water right from the ocean. They drain the pools in the evening and refill them with fresh saltwater overnight so the water stays fresh and clean.

Baquacil to Chlorine Conversion - Questions

I went through over 100 bottles of bleach, and my conversion took 3 weeks from start to finish. I think I used more bleach than most conversions do, though. Not sure why, but maybe because my pool had been on Baquacil for a LONG time (15 years). It was really discouraging by the second week...

Baquacil to Chlorine Conversion - Questions

You will be SO glad you made the switch! I had a Baquacil pool for 15 years and just finished converting it to chlorine this past weekend. Everyone on TFP was SO helpful with encouragement and with answering any questions I had. It got rather discouraging in the middle of the conversion...

Baquacil to Chlorine Conversion - need reassurance!

Thanks, kimkats! I'll do that. One more question tonight. I've been reading up on adding borates, and it sounds like boric acid might be easier than borax, since then you don't have to add muriatic acid to re-level the PH. I have already bought all the borax I need (darn it!), but I could...

Baquacil to Chlorine Conversion - need reassurance!

Thanks for the advice, kimkats. I'll just wait until the SWG is hooked up to add more CYA and to add borates. For now, I can just enjoy looking at that beautiful, sparkly pool out in the yard. Sure wish I could actually SWIM in it, but it's been raining all day today and it's supposed to be a...

Baquacil to Chlorine Conversion - need reassurance!

Thanks for the info, duraleigh. I've added TSP to my next pool shopping trip list so I can chemically clean the filter. I don't know where I can get it, but I'm going to check at the pool store first. I've added CYA now. Thanks for the tip to get it at Meijers, mitzelfamily. I wouldn't have...

Baquacil to Chlorine Conversion - need reassurance!

I have some end-of-conversion questions: 1) Should I throw away my cartridge filter and start with a new one or can I just chemically clean this one? a) If I can chemically clean this one, what should I use to clean it? I'm sure I can't use what I used with Baquacil, since it says...

Baquacil to Chlorine Conversion - need reassurance!

I did the OCLT last night/this morning and didn't lose any FC at all - woohoo! Of course, it was a short night, because I got home really late, so it was after 9:30 when I added more bleach to get the FC above 15 and then I needed to let it circulate before I tested it again. I didn't test the...

Baquacil to Chlorine Conversion - need reassurance!

Darn - I was SO looking forward to a swim today! :( The pool looks so sparkly and inviting now. I'm glad I asked, though - thanks for the advice, Leebo. I'm hoping that by the end of this weekend I can start on the next step, which is adding CYA (I think). I have to wait until the pool...

Baquacil to Chlorine Conversion - need reassurance!

The pool is completely blue and sparkling - woohoo! The CC is still at 2, though, so I guess that means the conversion is not quite done? I don't know if it passes the OCLT test, either, since I won't have time to do the test until Friday night/Saturday morning. I guess I'll just keep doing...

Baquacil to Chlorine Conversion - need reassurance!

The pool water is looking wonderful today - almost no green tinge left and the CC was down to 2.5 tonight. I think I'm almost done! The weird thing is, though, that I have had absolutely NO Baqua goo to skim/scoop out of the pool in over two weeks of conversion. I'm still rather puzzled...

Baquacil to Chlorine Conversion - need reassurance!

Thanks for all the encouragement - the pool is looking great (see picture below). bbodb1 - I read your thread and it answered several of my questions: 1) Is it OK to put my Aquabot in the pool while doing the conversion (it's now in the pool cleaning away, and I'm sure that is helping to...
