    Mithel's Pool

Drain and fill is "free" but one heck of a lot of time. But probably some cost in chemicals to get the water "right" again after adding in all that fresh well water. The primary problem with draining and filling is the loss of the warm water. We don't get much of a swimming season here in...

    Mithel's Pool

I added another seven gallons of 12.5% bleach yesterday. CC was measuring at 4. I did drain and refill a little more water too. Put in a pound of pH+ to try and raise pH a little (still reading at about 7.2). And also it rained this morning. This morning I tested again and still no free...

    Mithel's Pool

The rebate nonsense is a pain. I try to avoid that. Unfortunately Menards is out of stock. So I hit Fleet Farm for 16 gallons (an extra 25 cents a gallon doesn't bother me).

    Mithel's Pool

Now that is a clever idea (50/50 pool & tap water). I'll give that a try. For the moment I'm off to Menards to go buy everything they have {grin}.

    Storing the test kit

Why isn't indoors good for testing CYA?

    Mithel's Pool

It seems everyone here loves to help each other and general questions quickly become attempts to solve the issues of that individual's situation. So I figured I'd just start a thread on my own pool for everyone to help me. Situation: winter was long, spring was lots of rain, thus cloudy water...

    using chloring bleach

I think the accuracy of the pool store testing depends a lot on the store. In past years I'd take water into two different stores and get two totally different test results. My local store just bought a new testing system which seems to be *much* better and the results closely match what I'm...

    Storing the test kit

Awesome, thank you for the prompt and clear answer. I'll keep it indoors. It's actually easier to fetch a bottle of water from the pool as if I was going to the pool store for testing, and then just doing the testing in my kitchen.

    Storing the test kit

My TF-100 kit arrived today. I noticed that it said to store the "everyday" test box "near" the pool but not outside. Do they not want it out in the rain, etc. Or do they not want it to get hot? I have a three season (screened in porch) where I store most of my pool stuff. Is that okay? Or...

    Jets spewing white

Yes, I have an air relief valve and I usually purge air out. This was just an immediate reaction to sucking up air while cleaning the pool. I'm just a bit paranoid since I've been fighting a cloudy water issue this summer and the water is finally crystal clear.

    Jets spewing white

Yesterday I was cleaning my pool a little and sucked up a bit of air. The jets blew "white" for a surprising amount of time. Does anyone suspect anything wrong other than just blowing the air back into the pool?

    Bleach prices 2013

I think I can answer that the 121 is not a mistake. Apparently some jugs are slightly different sizes like 96 oz or 121 oz rather than a full 128 oz gallon.

    Bleach Equivalents to "Shock"

Oh, thanks. It's pretty rare that I've needed to lower pH. pH almost always tends to be low in my pool and thus I add a lot of pH+ (no doubt this is because of using diChlor and triChlor and their lowering of pH?).

    Bleach Equivalents to "Shock"

Well, so far so good. Eight gallons of bleach and it seems to have "shocked" the pool okay. I definitely need to buy a good test kit (the store is nice but it's a waste of time to drive there), from test strips and my "good" test kit all I can tell is that I've got the chlorine "off the...

    Bleach Equivalents to "Shock"

It's more accurate than "test strips". And they have this cool new machine that spins the water and does multiple samplings... etc.. etc...
