WINTER COVER and SKIMMER BASKET Question

Hi All :) I live in NH and we have very cold, harsh winters. Lots of heavy snow and freezing temps. I have searched all over the internet trying to get an answer to my question, but have had no success. Can someone please tell me if the winter cover is suppose to go OVER the skimmer basket...

Thank you! It's already dark here, but I will post a pic tomorrow. I was planning to take one with me when I visit the pool store AGAIN. Gosh, I feel like I live there!

    Atlantic Regency Pools

Hi Everyone! I have an Atlantic Regency Pool and we are new to "above ground pools". We purchased a solar cover this past weekend, but I can't run the pool filter with it on because the return blows it to the other side of the pool! I've searched high and low for a fix and the best one I've...

Winter Damage - Skimmer Wall Caved In

Oh, Crud! He already put it back together with the new Aquadoor plate (rim?) The water was about 6 inches below the skimmer. I wish he would LISTEN to me and research before he does things! He's awesome - the hardest worker I know - but he's like a bull in a china shop! (probably...

New above ground Pool Owner - 18' Harmony 54" Resin - Southern NH.

Hi Steve! I'm in NH as well! I hope all is going well with your new pool and (maybe?) deck! I just found this forum because we didn't properly winterize our above ground pool (my husband thought he covered all basis, but...) and we got some really bad winter damage to our skimmer wall :(

Found you while in distress over winter damage to our new above ground pool!

Hi Everyone! I am Melissa and we live in NH, where we have harsh winters with lots of snow and freezing temps! This is will be our second summer owning an above ground pool. At the home we lived in before we had an in-ground pool for 15 years. I found this amazing forum while researching how...

Winter Damage - Skimmer Wall Caved In

Newdude, thank you for making me smile :) Yes! It's our secret! We're very fortunate in that the damaged area is in the back and you can't see it! From the front, I am sooo grateful you can't tell that we almost wrecked our pool! When it's all clean and ready, I'll share a pic!

Winter Damage - Skimmer Wall Caved In

The picture makes it look worse than it is in person. I think it’s the lighting? The design on the pool camouflages the remaining dents nicely.

Winter Damage - Skimmer Wall Caved In

Hey Guys! GOOD NEWS! We lowered the water about six inches below the skimmer, removed the basket, placed 2x4's on each side (lined up in the middle of the skimmer hole) and using a bolt, my husband screwed them together and VOILA! It's not perfect and it still makes me want to cry when I see it...

Casey, is the skimmer hole to the right of the skimmer basket in the picture I attached? If so, you are RIGHT! He did! :O

Winter Damage - Skimmer Wall Caved In

zea3, my husband did it himself and I think he assumed he knew what he was doing because we had an in-ground pool for 15 years (I know! NOT the same kind of pool :( ). What's really strange is that we purchased and assembled our pool in the fall of 2018. It was too cold to use it, but we got...

No. There were no hoses hooked up. The pool filled up with water (from snow and rain) and went into the skimmer, which froze.

Winter Damage - Skimmer Wall Caved In

Hi kimkats! Thank you for your reply. The water is drained a few inches below the skimmer. It was drained down below the skimmer when we winterized it, but we got so much snow in the winter and rain in the spring that we had to drain it today after we took off the cover.
