    Sick of Algae!

I just think it's crazy to add cya at this point. Op could easily maintain an 8 chlorine level by floating pucks with cya in them. Might possibly need two floaters but I've done it. I've had experience with exactly this and solved it with more Puck floaters and more time on the filter.

Then use the pucks with stabilizer in them for a short time so that there's a constant feed of chlorine and you're getting more stabilizer at the same time...

    Sick of Algae!

There's got to be a different reason why you can't maintain a 6-8 chlorine level other than CYA. A CYA of 50 is great. Don't go higher than that. There are chlorine pucks that do NOT have CYA in them that you could float in your pool. I use them when I'm gonna be away for a few days. Poolife NST...

    Sick of Algae!

Cool. Is there a new cya chart then? I would love that link

    Sick of Algae!

Ah! I definitely did not see that. Sorry, I'm finding it odd to navigate the threads. And I think that link is from the originator of this site. I've been following him for many years before it turned into this site Trouble-free pools

    Sick of Algae!

I'm not sure that you understood what I meant. I mean that you're going to have to replace more than half of your water to get the cya down. Have you seen this cya chart on trouble-free pools site? http://www.poolsolutions.com/gd/best-guess-swimming-pool-chlorine-chart.html#a

    Sick of Algae!

If you can afford to replace some of your water to get the cya down, you should do that. If you can't afford to replace enough water to get the cya down, you are going to have to put in so much chlorine to break though the cya stabilizer

    Pool cover

I've always read that the water has to 'gas off' and why would you want to expose your cover to high levels of chlorine?

The Pentair VS pump default speeds / times seem really low.. what do you all do?

Hi I have a 19,000 gallon pool, 1.5 inch piping, a Hayward 4820 DE filter and I have a Pentair SuperFlo variable speed pump 342001. NO heater or chlorine generator in the line. The default speeds and times appeared to not be enough because I got algae (water chemistry perfect). I increased the...

Is it okay to put Cal hypo pucks in one floater and trichlor tablets in a different floater??

If I tie them on opposite sides of the pool, can call hypo tablets be in one floater and trichlor tablets be in the other floater and both be in the water at the same time apart? 16'x32' pool. Thanks! And if so, what's the best way to keep them stationary and not right next to my vinyl liner either?

    CalHypo instead of Bleach theory

Hi gang I may be new to TFP but I've been doing the BBB method for years. This season I opened with a nice amount of CYA (40/50) and I have a vinyl liner so I usually don't care about calcium. That dropped to like 40 over the years. I hate how liquid chlorine splashes so I picked up some CalHypo...
