Thanks for all the input. It is 220 and looks just like that picture. I changed to capacitor under the bump as I thought that was the start. Voltage is fine as it runs on high as long as it is already running on low. Just won't start from high. I'll pull the motor apart this weekend and see...

My 2 year old 1.5hp 2speed pump has a strange problem. It will start on low but not on high. If I try to start it on high it just hums then pops the thermal protection. Starts fine on low and runs on high just fine as long as it is already running. Suspected start capacitor, swapped it out...

Calcium has always been around 350 and ph I maintain to the best of my abilities. Adding acid once a week or so. It likes to rise even with my TA around 80. so in 02 it was showing a lot of wear on the steps and this is 2011. I would say it is well over 10 and that I just need to suck it up...

i will have to look into my solar control and see if it can do that. It is automated and controls a 24v Jandy valve. i suspect worse case i could design a 24v relay circuit that turns the pump on hi when it call for solar.

When the solar turns on does it automatically switch to hi? Thanks

I know but at twice the cost can I justify it. If i was to use a variable speed would it automatically increase the flo rate when the solar panels turned on and decrease it when they went off? Or do i have the buy that addon controller to do that? I wonder if i could design a circuit that...
