    Philip's Borate Thread

Trust your reading and round up to 50. Pool math shows 6 lbs would be 35 in your 20k gal pool. And you probably had some in your there already, so 50 should be reasonable

    Which Salt brand to use

Cheapest pure salt you can find. Usually water softener salt in 40lb bags without additives like iron out. Should say 99% pure. Walmart, lowes, Home Depot, etc all carry it

    Philip's Borate Thread

If using borax just start adding now. Assume borates zero and determine how much borax. Subtweet act the one box you already added. Remember to add about 1/4 the borax, then add am to compensate, then another 1/4... I r commend you steps, and test ph after the each step to ensure your moving...

Pressure much higher this year than last.

If gauge doesn't return to 0 when pump is off, th gauge is bad. If it sits around 5 and goes up to 20, you can treat it as good and just subtract 5, but guag s are only about $10 so I'd replace it anyway

Starting pumps for the first time and need to SLAM

It's definitely doable. Get your filter filled, make sure plumbing valves are open and get water circulating. Add bleach, enough to get 3-4 fc to begin with, and do a full s t of tests. Adjust ph if need d to 7.2. Start adding bl ache to get to slam levels based on cya and est. maintain fc at...

SLAM not working, chlorine consumption steady (not dropping)

Treat the cya as 40, rounding up. Use 16 for your fc. Add as often as you can to keep fc at 16, or even slightly higher. Run filters continuously. And patience

    New pool advice

I don't like messing with cartridges so would go with a sand filter.

    Conversion questions

Just patience and continued effort at this point. The fc is burning out the baqua which is the cause of the fc and the fc going down. Keep adding chlorine as often as possible to adjust fc to 15. Keep filter on unning and backwash as needed. Just hang around n there and you'll make it!

    Mustard algae

I have a similar sediment in my pool occasionally. Have tovac daily for 3-4 days to get ro of it. Because I always pass ocl and water always crystal clear, I'm certain it is fine dust collected from windy area. It seems wors after I mow, which tends to confirm my assumption

    what am i doing wrong???

Sounds like you cleaning Ted the filter. Will the pump run now that backwash is complete? You may need to bypass to waste when vacuuming with a lot of debris

Daily FC Loss - Is this really cheaper?

During slam the 24 is the goal you want to stay at. The more frequently you test and bump it to stay there the easier the slam will go. During normal use, ideally you would stay at target. However, if you drop a little under for short durations you should be fine. Just don't drop below min...

    Coleman Poles

Coleman has always done right by me. Replaced a lantern and a tent just on a phone call

    What is your swimmable temp?

I get in for short times around 70. Growing up near creeks that never reached above 50. Usually not full immersion in a creek but still played in it

    Flocculation, Reflocculation and Overflocculation

Dichlorvos will add more cya. If you need to add chlorine just use bleach or liquid chlorine. If you drive the cya up it'll just make it harder to clear in future. If you maintain your fc according to the cya chart you probably will never need to shock or slam again

How long do I have to test after sample?

Just keep it sealed in a closed container. A couple hours shouldn't affect the test
