What are the white flakes in our pool?

Thanks for the info. I can see a few places where similar flakes are attached to the plaster, but very few. The accumulation of flakes is in the vicinity of water returns, so the SWG problem makes sense. I will adjust and see what happens. Thanks, Scott

What are the white flakes in our pool?

I am seeing lots of small white flakes in our pool. Some are as large as 3/8" across. They are very thin and brittle. I thought they might be salt so I tasted one and it is not salt. The flakes seem to be forming on the plaster surface then coming loose and sitting on the bottom until...

    Calcium Hardness keeps rising

Pool was completed in June. I went to a local pool store that has been relatively good in the past and they measured CH at 320. Looks like I'm going to have to partial drain for other reasons as well so I will try that and continue to monitor. Thanks, Scott

    Calcium Hardness keeps rising

I do all the work myself. I last shocked at the end of August. The only thing I have added in the last two months is MA (regularly), about 3 Lbs of baking soda, and about 4 lbs of CYA (99%). No one has been swimming much in the last month. I understand about draining/refilling, but I really...

    Calcium Hardness keeps rising

My pool's calcium Hardness keeps rising and I can't figure out why. Today's test FC- 3.5 CC - 0 PH - 7.5 TA - 80 CH - 450-475 CYA - 80 On 9/25 CH was 270. On 10/11 CH was 390. I'm using the TF-100 kit and tested CH twice today with readings of 450 and 475. I have an auto-fill, but the tap...

    How to time/schedule pump/SWG

Thanks for all the advice. Here is what I'm doing now that seems to be working well. I added stabilizer to get the CYA to 70. With SWG running 60% for 1:40 minutes, twice a day the FC stablized at 4.5 (measured 4 pm after SWG is done for the day). This also seems to have lowered my acid...

    How to time/schedule pump/SWG

Thanks for the advice. The part about the SWG "cycling" to make the % seems to make sense. The SWG is running when the pump is on high - even though that is not required. I have been testing between 4 and 5 p.m. That time is when I can consistently do it. The SWG is done for the day at that...

    How to time/schedule pump/SWG

Calcium Hardness is 270. I have been told that you can get longer life from the SWG cell by running it less time at 100%. Is this true?

    How to time/schedule pump/SWG

First let me say thanks for TTP. I've had the pool running since June and I've learned tons from this forum. I have a digital timer for my pump (two speed) and SWG and want to know if I'm running it correctly. I have been running the following schedule: Start 8 a.m. Run 1 hour on high w/ SWG...
