Video uploaded to youtube (). The pump is a variable speed pump - issue exists at all speeds. Yes, I checked and lubed the lid gasket.

No sound for that area. I did check all the fittings, including re-taping and lubing gaskets. No change.

The pump clearly has air in it (you can see the stream of water entering the pump basket). Filter pressure generally reads between 0-2psi. It will shoot up to around 10psi; which has typcally indicated the need to backwash. I've checked and lubed all gaskets (haven't inspected filter pressure...

Ground is level so the rise is only 1-2 feet (difference in height from top of skimmer to pump). I just did a more accurate distance measurement and it's 82 feet from skimmer to pump.

I backwash my filter once every 6-weeks during the summer (pool is only open late May - late September). Thorough cleaning at the end of the season. Rarely does filter pressure rise 30%. So the only downside of a small filter is more regular cleaning? No impact on filtration if properly...

Assuming I have a 26,000 gallon pool, is my existing DE filter so completely inadequate that it would make sense to upgrade to a larger cartridge or sand filter now?

Thanks. Actually, just reran the math on my pool size and it's definitely closely to 26,000 gallons than 33,000 gallons.

Had to replace the bottom tube sheet in my Hayward EC65a and noticed that several (25-35) filter fingers are cracked near the top. I'm not adverse to replacing some of them (those that are so cracked I can't fit them back into the tube sheet); however, 35 filter fingers adds up to some $$$...
