Adding chlorine/bleach to salt water pool in cold weather when SWG is off

This is an interesting topic that I have not heard before today. I have a salt cell that is going bad but a pool guy told me this morning to shut it off and use chlorine until Spring when the our weather temp's will be getting warmer, then I can replace the cell at that time. At night we have...

    Time to replace salt cell?

Here are the diagnostics. It is not showing me the normal salt count and temperature as usual now so I don't know where those fall into this list: 9P -2.80 AL - 0 r 1.59 L - 15 2.70 18 26.5 4.78

    Time to replace salt cell?

My readings from yesterday 11/24 were: PH - 7.7 TA - 80 FC - 5.5 CC - 0 CYA - 70 CH 625 Salt - 2700 (it was 2600 this morning) temp - 62 CSI - 0 - - - Updated - - - We reinstalled the salt cell and it is still blinking "check salt cell" and "no flow". I think it is probably time for the cell...

    Time to replace salt cell?

It is a Haword Turbo Cell T-15. I do not have a salinity test kit. We just took out the salt cell and it has scale/salt build up on it (never has in the past). Most of it knocked off with a screwdriver and the garden hose so it might be more salt than anything. My husband is out there trying to...

    Time to replace salt cell?

I have added 140lbs of pool salt to my pool over the last 5 weeks. The SWG registers the salt at a higher level then about a week or so later is drops. Does it sound like it is time for a new salt cell? This salt cell is five years old. My FC levels are fine.

Pool is filling up by itself!

The repair guy said maybe there is water coming through the fill spout on the pool even though we have the faucet shut off tight. We dripped some red dye in front of the opening and it isn't showing any water coming through. When the pump is on and we hold our hands in front of the fill spout it...

Pool is filling up by itself!

LOL. There is definitely no auto-fill. We didn't build the pool but have been in the house 5 years. I also thought about somehow ground water entering the pool but I don't see how since I don't see any cracks, etc. I will see if the repair guy has any ideas tomorrow. I will report back if I...

Pool is filling up by itself!

We do not have an auto pool fill and live in the desert. During the summer I have to fill my pool a few times each week. The last time I filled was 2 weeks ago and we have still had weather in the 90's to 100's. The strange thing is my pool water level has increased to where it is now at the...

What plaster looks like 2 years later

My results from last weekend were: PH 7.8 TA 70 FC 4 CC 0 CYA 50 CH 500 Salt 3600 Temp 77 I measured the fill water for CH a few times before we did the Reverse Osmosis on it last year and CH was 100. It is really windy today so I will try to snap some photos of the yellowing in the plaster...

What plaster looks like 2 years later

Thanks for the replys. I guess maybe "staining" isn't the right word. Our plaster never looked pristine white from the beginning (it was creamy with creamy swirls) so maybe my expectations are too high. There have never been any metals detected in the water when we have tested for it. We are on...

    stuck salt cell

We unscrew our salt cell every 3 months when the check cell light comes on with no problem. This time the cell just won't budge. It doesn't help that it is up against the wall and the big filter cartridge dome is in front of it so it is awkward to access at best. Is there a special tool that can...

What plaster looks like 2 years later

We had our pool replastered in January of 2015. We have kept up the pool chemicals and have been good about brushing. Never had an algae outbreak. We do have very hard water with the calcium hardness rising fast with no real reason (we have been around about that on the forum with no answers as...

    What robot meets this criteria?

Thank you everyone. I narrowed it down to the Doheny Discovery and the Dolphin Nautilus, and ended up ordering the Discovery. Will report back after we have it and are using it. Thanks!
