Safety pool cover shedding plastic after about four years

I'll call the companies to ask about the differences. I see the Loop Loc covers range (for my pool size) from $900 to nearly $2400. While I see differences in thicknesses, warranty, etc. I have a hunch they are all covered in the same plastic but I'll ask.

Safety pool cover shedding plastic after about four years

This is our first pool. We quickly found the $100 floating bubble wraps don't work & have safety issues so we decided we wanted a true safely cover. I don't recall what other models were available to be honest. The $800 one seemed to hold enough weight and have a long enough warranty for us.

Safety pool cover shedding plastic after about four years

I did not do that as a first step. I wanted to first get a feel for whether or not this is "normal". Apparently it isn't. GLI has poor reviews on BBB and I don't know that I'd want a new cover from them even if they offered. Likely they would offer me a discount on new one since we did get a...

Safety pool cover shedding plastic after about four years

I appreciate your feedback. We paid about $800 for it. Uploading images of the tag. It was made by GLI and sold to us as a safety cover.

Safety pool cover shedding plastic after about four years

It's blue on one side, green on the other. Here's a shot of the blue plastic that is just falling off of it in pepper-sized flakes. I'm sure the filter will get the larger flakes but I feel like I am just poisoning my pool with microplastics if I use it this year. In the second picture, I...

Safety pool cover shedding plastic after about four years

Pulled out our safety pool cover purchased about four years ago. Noticed the trail of blue plastic dust it was leaving behind everywhere. It's for an inground pool that is roughly 15x35. It is a solid cover with a mesh panel in the middle. We went all out for the safety of it and thinking...

Crack forming top edge of 1 year old Blue Hawaiian pool

It's just the one and we are monitoring it for growth. Time will tell. I don't mind a bit of discoloration if it will help prevent spread or deepening of the problem. Thanks for the input. - - - Updated - - - Good point about the discoloration. My concern is deepening as well. I...

Crack forming top edge of 1 year old Blue Hawaiian pool

Just looking for tips about handling this as I don't entirely trust the pool company who installed this pool last year. Picture attached of a small (2-inch) crack near the top of our 1-year-old Blue Hawaiian fiberglass pool. The installer sent someone who spoke of it being probably just a...

First year salt pool in NC, left open, pump running, water temp down to 33 - Yikes!

Thanks! That is comforting. Meanwhile, my husband draped the pool with a solar cover after the sun faded away from the pool.

First year salt pool in NC, left open, pump running, water temp down to 33 - Yikes!

This is our first year with in-ground 15,500 gallon salt pool. Being in NC, we were told it would be fine to leave it open and just run the pump when it is freezing. I read the article here on the Physics of Freezing and Freeze Protection but it's all a bit overwhelming since actual...
