Refurbish gunite pool the least expensive way possible

It is weeping in some spots, discoloration, some small cracks. Given the other work it needs, new skimmers, filter, probably a pump and plumbing, I need to keep resurfacing to no more than 2k. I might not even need painting/plastering but given the expense of bringing in water (it's 55l gallons)...

Refurbish gunite pool the least expensive way possible

I have a gunite pool that has been neglected for about 5 years. Two skimmers need to be replaced as do the lines to the skimmers. I just want to get the pool functioning, for 2-3 years at most. It has a pebble tec finish. I probably cannot afford to replaster it. It is about 48x28. Is painting...

Is it time for a new cartridge

I have a Sta-Rite SM8150 cartridge filter. Prior to this year, after cleaning the cartridge the PSI would start off at about 20 then eventually rise to about 30 and there was no major loss in flow. The output side of the filter plumbing goes into a spa and then a spillway. So I can observe...

    Does this extrapolation sound reasonable...

I believe it is. I ran out of reagent, so I cannot get an accurate reading. Prior to running out of reagent I go to a drop of about 1 ppm overnight. I'm wondering if my cartridge may not be filtering well. It is about 5 years old. I had an older one, 7 years, that I used when I initially...

Negatives of using bleach? And bleach vs. liquid chlorine?

I'm fortunate, my local pool store carries 12.5% and it is about $2.50 a gallon. Much better price than Leslie (which is almost twice as much) and the other pool stores that have the 5 gallon jugs.

    Does this extrapolation sound reasonable...

As I've posted elsewhere, I'm now into week 4 of cleaning my pool. I think the algae is dead (or most of it) but there is so much suspended debris that it is taking forever to clean the pool. I also had some air leaks on the suction side, so for the first 3 weeks, the pump\filter was not...

Is it safe to swim while still shocking the pool

The pool was not covered and we've had a warm early summer (for once) her in New England. Not opening the pool until 7/1 gave the algae a wonderful opportunity to bloom. I have 50K gallons of water to clean, so even in a good year it takes at least a couple of weeks to clear up. This year I...

Is it safe to swim while still shocking the pool

I'm at the end of week 3 of trying to clean my pool and I'm making slight progress. I can now see the third step, a major accomplishment. I've been following the guidelines on this site regarding shocking the pool. Based on the guidelines I'm keeping the FC at 16. I still have an overnight...

    Getting desperate, should I floc?

Yes, this is a cart. The only vacuum to waste option is (via the filter) is opening the drain on the filter. However, I have another pump that is connected to my returns and leaf trapper system that I can disconnect and use to vacuum the pool.

    Getting desperate, should I floc?

I realize the floc want kill the algae, but wouldn't getting many of the suspended particles out of the way (to the bottom of the pool and vacuuming) help to better circulate the water, by reducing the need to clean the filter so frequently? I'm also thinking that if floc will help to get some...

    Getting desperate, should I floc?

Does it make sense that the CC is staying at 1 ppm? Shouldn't there be some variability?

    Getting desperate, should I floc?

Yesterday AM the water was very cloudy, kind of grayish. I have black pebble tec. Then I swept the shallow end and stirred up some algae and it turn green (as expected). This AM it is back to being cloudy and grayish. The weird thing is, since I got my test kit (k-2006) on Saturday, the CC...

    Getting desperate, should I floc?

My filter has been running 24x7 for almost 3 weeks and I have to spray down my filter at least 3 times per day (and still can't keep up with it). I opened the pool late ( 7/1) and the algae had taken over. There is so much debris in the pool that it is taking forever to clear up. The filter...

Shocking, testing but CC stays at 1

I got the FC 30 from the Taylor book. I've had the pool for 10 years but this is the worst trouble I've ever had getting it clean. This is the latest I've ever opened it so the algae had plenty of time to take hold and it wasn't covered. I decided to give TFP a try because I'm not always...
