    Chuck's Pool

Question about TA, I saw something on the internet about getting "true total alkalinity", by subtracting 1/3 of your CYA measurement from your TA reading. Which should I be using, my test kit measurement or the math? o_O

Glass filter update; It's functioning fabulously. By maintaining appropriate levels of Jack's Magic Pink Stuff, using an alternate, filtered, water source, and the glass filter media, it's relatively iron free. One thing operational wise, filtration pressure is higher then standard sand, with...

Question regarding Trichlor, I've read some articles that saying not to use in vinyl pools. I prefer liquid bleach, but there are days when I can't tend the pool, and Trichlor tabs fill the need, should I be concerned?

I've been hoping to find a live thread of filter glass user's, so far no luck. I may have to start one, I to have been wondering about general operation and maintenance. I love the glass, it's working as advertised. My pool link is Chuck's Pool , next spring I'll pull the filter head, inspect...

    Need advice about glass.

I believe it depends on manufacturer instructions. I recently switched from sand to glass, Brightline, recommends 20% less glass media than sand, I used 160 pounds in a 200 pound filter. I've seen other brands going 1 for 1. I am totally happy with the switch.

I have a question regarding chemical storage degradation. In regards to chlorine, does granular/powdered have a longer shelf life than liquid? I have two boxes of cal hypo 73%, 1 pound, shock packets, about a year old. Does degradation effect pH, or does that stay consistent?
