in the end i went with a different method. seems to be going great, but we'll see a year from now after a freeze/thaw cycle :)

scratch that. mapei manufacturer said their product is not suitable for such a deep gap. i'll have to go back to type S mortar

i'm embarking on a new project for me.. pool coping using Oak concrete pavers. they are 8" wide by 12" long and 2 3/8" thick. they are being installed on a steel wall inground pool where the steel bond area is 5.5" wide. coping sits on top of steel wall and overhangs 1". the other 6.5 "...

if your pool coping has that grove to hook the winter cover into then don't overhang paver too much because its hard to access that grove.

use an adhesive that can go between concrete & steel such as bull dog, or PL 9000
