Opened pool to yellow / mustard algae

Thanks! FWIW, I'm pretty confident it's Mustard Algae. I've fought it the last 3 years (my entire time that I've owned this pool). The previous owner said she used to see a yellow like algae and she'd treat it with Yellow Out and it would go away. Obviously, I started that way in 2017 until...

Opened pool to yellow / mustard algae

I wasn't sure about the CYA. With the tube at 30, I could still see the dot. So, I started off assuming less that 30. After adding like 3lbs, the tube showed between 40 and 50 and my understanding is you round up.

Opened pool to yellow / mustard algae

I was disappointed to say the least. While the pool was a nice shade of green, after a few hours I realized it was my old friend the mustard algae. To recap -- I opened the pool Saturday. When I saw the algae I just assumed this was the normal thing many experience when opening the pool in...

Help with heater size -- is smaller than recommended still Ok?

Thanks for the replies, but perhaps I didn't make the problem clear. My current gas plumbing can only supply a 200K BTU unit. To do 400K, I will need to replace 40' black iron pipe in the basement as well as dig up 40 feet of yard to install 1 1/4" pipe instead of 3/4". The other choice would...

Help with heater size -- is smaller than recommended still Ok?

I have a 32500 gal pool, 20x40 (800 sq. ft.). Most pool heater sizing charts would recommend a 300-400KBTU heater, even adding in the quip that bigger is better. However, the previous owners of the house had a pool heater. It died, and they removed it. Gas line and electric are already...

Left in vacation, kids didn't keep fc up...

Well, sigh of relief. I bought a new bottle of CYA reagent just in case. I did the test again (this time not in direct sunlight). However, I didn't have my glasses on and I thought I read between 10-20, but that's really 40-50! So, if you round up, then we're at 50. So, shock level is 20...

I know how we feel about Leslie's, but I had them do the cya test. He says 40.

I think I just ROYALLY SCREWED UP!! Just to practice and verify, I measured my CYA. It came back at like 10! The water was like an hour old, so I did it again and same result! 3 weeks ago it was 70-80. Last year it was 140, and I couldn't get rid of the mustard algae which is why I found...

Dropped pH to 7.2, started the SLAM. Wish me luck!

So it's been a few days since my last post. I did what was suggested and did the higher resolution OCLT. I'm on the fence. It was FC 11.4 / 9.8, so a 1.6 loss, but .4 CC. I've been keeping the FC around 10. What concerns me is I seem to be losing about 40% during the day. I've been reading...

Results of OCLT. Last night, 9, perhaps 9.5. This morning 8. Seems borderline. SLAM?

Well, water looks clean (debris on the bottom). However, my daughter added 4 gallons of 10% yesterday, when according to her FC was at 1.5. I came home a day later and it's only 2! My combined chlorine was zero. So, where did the FC go? Granted, it was hot and sunny, but the solar blanket...

Thanks all! We're actually waiting for our last flight to take off. I should be home in a few hours and will test and inspect and let you know.

So they were supposed to test and keep my FC at 8-10. I took it up to about 13 before I left. When my daughter tested, it was 1.5! So, at a cya of 75, minimum was 5. Do I have to slam now, or can I do the rest and decide if it's needed?
