I discovered the reason for why the pool plumbing is the way it is. The whips are supposed to be retractable. The suction is supposed to suck the whips back into the plumbing. It does not work for me. It could be because so many of the whips are missing. The whips do not look like the ones in...

They are return side cleaners. They attach to the sides of the walls. Pools are not built with them anymore because they don't work nearly as well as floor heads / nozzles.

There's only one body of water. The pump pad plumbing is not confusing. Suction and return. The plumbing in the picture is where it gets confusing.

What I meant by "Did I let my pH get to high and the water gave up some of it's calcium hardness?" was that it might be leaving the water and sticking to the surfaces (scaling).

equalizer line, in case your skimmer gets clogged but more so in case your water level drops too low for the skimmer

Is Calcium Hardness necessary for Vinyl and Fiberglass? What about the deck?

The pool's calcium hardness is 90 ppm. The hose bib connected to the auto-fill line gives me water with 150 ppm. How is this possible? Did I let my pH get to high and the water gave up some of it's calcium hardness?
