Hot Springs Sovereign Hot Tub - Troubleshoot Help

Hope to get some help now with my little hot tub project. I got a 2001 Hot Springs Sovereign I that was problematic to the previous owner. It suffered from a no heat issue, and when it was diagnosed as a board issue was left to sit for a couple years. I got it and found the typical heater relay...

New Inherited Pool Owner - Going Insane with Information Overload

Just a quick note to stick with it.... I started this a couple of seasons ago with very unbalanced pool by treating it with all the junk the store that sold me the pool told me to add. I still ended up with algae by the end of August... Now a couple of seasons in and there is no way I will...

    Dry skin

Thanks for the quick replies. Interesting because I thought the same but being so new to this I have no clue how much to add..... or what impact it will have on my other readings. I test PH with the Taylor PH test that comes with the TF100 kit. My liquid chlorine is "Austins Pool Tech...

    Dry skin

I have a strange question.... My pool is fine. Water looks awesome. Had a ton of kids in it and nothing bad happened. Test showed it "healthy" before and after... Here is what I am noticing. After I go in the pool my skin feels dried out. I also notice that when I dip my hand in the pool and...

    test results! Advice needed!

Sorry I must have said it wrong.. Yes I know that a .5 CC is fine. From what I understand is if CC keeps creeping up, then it is an indication that something is up, and a SLAM will kill it. I didn't mean you need to slam every time CC moves from 0. Sorry if it sounded like that.

    test results! Advice needed!

As timerguy said above, you probably have a cya number up over 100 and not the 59 the store is telling you. They don't tell you that most of the powders and the chlorine pucks add cya. It is CYA that hampers chlorine. So you were adding 5 - 6lbs of shock every day? My guess is that shock was a...

    Went to the pool store....

Aww.. Shucks, thanks... I just keep hoping that some of the other folks out there getting "pool stored" read this and get it. I am soooo very happy with my pool right now. Just ran this week's full battery of tests and, to use a car cliche (since I am a car nut), she is purring like a kitten...

    what is what

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ What he said..... In a nutshell, get the TF-100 with the speed stir... Cheaper than the "first round" of chemicals the pool store will sell you. Take charge of your pool by testing.... As far as the plumbing goes... that is going to be tough for the experts with the size...

    Went to the pool store....

Yup... went to the pool store yesterday... It felt soooo good to answer..."No, that's OK, I'm just looking" Picked up a float lounge, this really neat hammock float that I gave away to my Dad last year, and a canister of stabilizer just to have some on hand. Absolutely no drama to report and...

    So, what to do next?

YAY... This site is really Trouble Free AND EASY Pool!!! Thanks to the great guides, calculators, and the tremendous coaches, I did it. As of today my pool math calculations result in a Balanced Pool. I ran all the tests and I am in great shape... Now to maintain.

    So, what to do next?

So, just to update, my CC went to 0 on Sunday the 11th, that night the FC held and still had 0 CC in the morning. Monday morning I dropped the pump down to a cycle I am going to try. 2 Hours in the early AM, 2 Hours from 11AM to 1PM, then 2 hours from 5PM to 7PM. Checked free chlorine in the...

    So, what to do next?

Rats! That is what I get for not reading enough.... just became a Lifetime Member and noticed that I could have gotten $10.00 off my test kit... LOL, even after reading that it was a no-brainer to click the donation button. This site has already saved me way over that....

    So, what to do next?

I ran the full battery of tests.... Yea, I know the PH and TA tests will be wacky with such high levels of chlorine... but wanted to see anyway and practice with my test kit. Honestly I can see me ordering more testing agents soon. This little "chemistry set" is a hoot... LOL ;) So, I am a...

    So, what to do next?

9:45PM Tested chlorine FC = 16 CC = 0 TC = 16 Woo Hoo.... So sitting out with the filter running it dropped from shock level of 20 to 16.... but CC went to 0. Adding enough 12.5% bleach to bring it back up to 20... and see if it holds over night... I think I'm doing this right......

    So, what to do next?

Yes, I am aware of that. Took the PH test before heavy dosing. I figured I'd get the Borax and add what Pool Math suggested. Wait until my chlorine values are where I want them and then do the "full battery of tests" again. I know the beginning PH was pretty low, so the Borax should bring it up...
