Help! Neglected Pool – Where Do I Start?

Lots of questions to answer for truly informed advice....What are you planning on doing with the house? Do you have any pics of the current situation? Is it a gunite pool? Without knowing much....I would say if selling fill it in. If you are keeping the home and have a use for the...

    No blowing out lines!!!

Take a close look at your closing contract. Make sure there is no clause that limits their liability if damage is discovered upon opening it the next year. My PB had a clause in their closing contract that limited their liability.

Snoo's 1st close: inground, vinyl, sand filter

Anti freeze in those parts is not a big deal. The anti freeze in the lines now gets flushed into the pool when you open it up anyway. More important is that you air locked the main drains by blowing them out and closing off the valve while still forcing air through.

Snoo's 1st close: inground, vinyl, sand filter

I TOTALLY understand this!!! I have gotten my pool budget down from about $1200 a year to maybe $150. This is due to opening and closing myself and using "chemicals" like baking soda, borax, MA, andcalcium chloride. The only real chemical I buy is CYA. The value of the cyclone will be...

    First Time Blowing Pool Lines

Unless I am totally not understanding the whole process. The filter is taken totally out of the process when "clearing the lines" The drain plug in the bottom of the filter is removed. The filter drains. Clear the suction side at the pump basket before the filter and clear the return side...

    First Time Blowing Pool Lines

I don't see the need to "blow air through the filter" I clear the suction side out before the filter and the return side out after the filter. Am I missing something here. In that picture it appears to me that you would blow out the returns using the plumbing that is not circled. Right??

Snoo's 1st close: inground, vinyl, sand filter

That's the one!!! I bought this last year when I decided to close the pool. It has since paid for itself with the money I have saved in closing services. The only thig needed is the flex hose to take you from the cyclone to the line you are blowing out. I have about a 5' section attached to...

Can someone check my closing list and instructions? It’s my first close. 🥸

6 gallons of anti freeze seems a bit much IMO. I have over 56' of plumbing and use one gallon of anti freeze. A third of a gallon each for the skimmer, deck jets and returns. If the lines are cleared properly you should not need any anti freeze. The anti freeze eventually settles in the...

No Polyquat!!!! :D:D So I have had my pool for 5 years and because of this forum I have opened and closed my pool the last two years!!!! Used to spend $750 a year on open/close service. Our setups sound very similar. I closed my pool last night :(:(:(. First thing I did was had a...

    Pool Build Input - SEPA

This is the struggle with most builds. Budget and imagination are the only two factors that limit possibilities. How big is the family? Do you entertain a lot? It has been my experience that you always grow into or out of your space. With that being said, I would push to have the larger...

The PH rise while aerating is really fast.

Yes. Any type of situation in a hot tub is exaggerated over that of a large pool. Bather load, chemical addition, aeration, speed of algae growth.

Your hot tub is not 18x36.

Redneck ponders why Darwin's law doesn't seem to apply to bugs in a pool

Water surface tension has a bit to do with bug survival in ponds and other bodies of water in nature.

    Which pool heater to choose

I have the same size pool with a heat pump. Love it. I also run it in April and October. I also spark it up occasionally in the summer months when I need a little heat. One negative is its ability to heat at low ambient temps. The heat pump will only get you to about 15-20 degrees over...

Who is using the Chlorsync CS30?

Eeeek. that is rough to have to deal with. I have the Auto Pilot Dig-220 it is the predecessor to the ChlorSync it seems. I love the Dig-220 I will be following this thread to see about an upgrade. I'm a huge gadget guy. I am drawn to the app interface even though a 30ft walk outside could...
