New liner, need to balance water

I'm in the Northeast, so not to worry there. The solar cover is on the pool any time we're not actively swimming. I get probably about 8 hours of direct sunlight on the pool. We were able to swim for the first time this past weekend. I'm keeping an eye on the chlorine and pH every other day to...

New liner, need to balance water

I just checked again and my CYV is about 25, so I need to put a little more in. FC is in the 3-6 range so I should be good there. TA is about 65 so I'm happy, pH is 7.2 and that I'm sure will rise. I have the solar cover on pretty much all the time right now to heat it up, so I shouldn't be...

New liner, need to balance water

Yes by shock I meant the 12% liquid chlorine. My pool is a 24' round ABG, 13,600 gallons. With CYA at 10 and my FC at 1, Pool Math said to drop about a quart of 12% bleach in so that's what I did. I did drop a couple of leftover 3" tabs in a floater just to get some chlorine and CYA in before I...

New liner, need to balance water

I put another pound of Borax in, have 3 socks with granular stabilizer (about 2.5-3 pounds) in there, and I poured about a quart of shock in. Will test again in a bit.

New liner, need to balance water

Thank you for your reply! I dropped a 4-pound box of Borax in last night and I'm at about 7.2 for pH. Alkalinity is at 60. CYA is still under 20 even after a full bottle of liquid stabilizer, so it looks like I'll be grabbing some granules and doing the sock thing to bring it up the rest of the...

New liner, need to balance water

Hey all! I just got my liner replaced in a 24' round ABG pool. I had 9000 gallons of "treated" water delivered and did the rest with the hose. I'm trying to get the water balanced and have a few questions: TA is at 50. It was at 40 and I dropped almost a full box of Borax in yesterday. PH is...

    PVC hard pipe question

Aha, I see what you're saying. This was what I was trying to avoid, adding extra resistance in the lines by running them down, across, then back up again. If this is the correct way to do it, then that is exactly how I will run them. Then I will just have to decide if I'm going to tee off at the...

    PVC hard pipe question

Most of the fittings are 1-1/2" standard thread. My Hayward skimmer has the barbed fitting threaded in, all I have to do is remove it and replace it with a PVC glue-on fitting (threaded into the skimmer end and then glue to the pipe toward the pump). The return jet fittings are 1-1/2" female...

    PVC hard pipe question

What do you mean by "PVC bridge"? I was going to just tee off of the primary jet line and continue on to the new jet location. I was going to put a ball valve on each line (downstream from the tee) so I can manipulate flow independently for each jet.

    PVC hard pipe question

Hmm, I was not aware of that, I was talking about the return jet coming from the filter, returning water to the pool.

    PVC hard pipe question

Looks great! I would love to move the actual filter/pump away from the pool, but I think that will be a task for the next homeowner. I'd have to trench and relocate the electrical as well. For now I'm just aiming to make the plumping look nicer, avoid having to replace the flex hoses if they...

    PVC hard pipe question

Thanks for the reply. I have not found any information on the pump about what is recommended, and my filter only has a single return port. I don't have any flow trouble, but I have tried experimenting with different return eye positions to push debris into the skimmer. I keep finding a trade-off...

    PVC hard pipe question

Thanks for the reply. I did see those two posts, but most of what I see are for Intex pools. I'm looking specifically to see if it is OK to directly attach the PVC to the vertical supports of a typical hard-sided ABG pool. I think that's the direction I would want to go in. I know some...

    PVC hard pipe question

Hey all, Been lurking on the forum for about a year and this is my first post. My wife and I bought a new house 18 months ago and it came with a 24' above ground pool. This site has been very helpful so far, I have been able to get really great info without having to post, until now... I am...
