    Questions about pool liner color

We are replacing our 10 year old pool liner and the pool builder is encouraging us to buy a dark liner. He said that light colored liners can let light through and maybe encourage the dreaded fungus underneath. We are in north Florida and the pool is in full sun so we are concerned about a...

    New SWG. CYA Question

I just installed a SWG after 9 years of dealing with liquid chlorine and I'm in the process of adjusting the chemicals according to the TFP guidelines. I've never actually had to add CYA because the few times it ever got a little low I just used trichlor for a week or two to bring it up. Now I...

Algae Problem in spite of good OCLT numbers

Thanks. I will start SLAMing tonight. I have one quick question about the OCLT. When I am not in the slam process my filter does not run at night. So, independent of the slam process, does the filter need to be running when doing the overnight chlorine test or does it matter for accuracy. It...

Algae Problem in spite of good OCLT numbers

I would like your opinion about my algae situation. I pass the OCLT (FC was 5 last night and 4.5 this morning), my water is clear, and my CC is 0. But I have algae on the walls and creases in places where my pool robot misses. Any suggestions? My current numbers are: FC 4.5, CC 0, pH 7.8, TA...

Ph and Alkalinity continuing to drift up

It takes less than a week for it to drift back up. Using the Lowering Total Alkalinity process is going to be my next step but before I do that I thought I would ask if anyone could think of a reason that it is not stabilizing. The last time I went through the process and got it down to ph 7.5...

Ph and Alkalinity continuing to drift up

I am having a problem with my ph and alkalinity continuing to drift up. Every time I lower the ph to 7.5 it just jumps back up to 8.2 or higher (can't tell higher from the kit) and the alkalinity drifts up with it. I got them both down to 7.5 and 90 respectively but they went right back up...

Pentair Intelliflo VS Installation with Polaris

I am considering installing the Pentair Intelliflo VS Variable speed pump (Model 011018) to replace my single speed pump and doing the installation myself. I have a Polaris pool cleaner with its own booster pump. I currently have a control box with two manual timers, one for the pump and the...

    Help re balancing pool chemistry

All is well with the pool chemistry. I brought the pH down to 7.8. Then we had three days of rain. The TA is down to 90. The cya is at 30 but the chlorine does not seem to be burning off to fast. I think I had chlorine that had deteriorated over the winter and I just thought it was burning...

    How to clean fiberglass steps

Tried the Magic Eraser and it worked great. The water line rim is gone and the top step is again bright white. FYI for anyone reading this I found that the Magic Eraser Original worked the best. I also tried the 2X concentrate and it didn't work as well.

    Help re balancing pool chemistry

Thanks for the quick answer. I thought the pH should be my main concern but thought I would check. I'll work on lowering it right away with MA. My CC is 0 and the water is clear and sparkling. I brought the FC up to 3 so I can test it tomorrow and see how much burned off today. Then I'll...

    Help re balancing pool chemistry

The weather has gotten warm and the pool is now up to 80 degrees. We keep the pool open all year even though we don't use it in the cool months. We've had a good bit of rain and now the chemistry, which stayed perfect all winter, has gotten out of whack. The pool is in direct sun from about...

    How to clean fiberglass steps

Thanks for the tips. I will try the Magic Eraser on the scum line. I'll have to wait until the water warms up a little more to tackle all but the top step.

    How to clean fiberglass steps

Our pool is two years old and the fiberglass steps have a black ring around the water line. The steps are also not bright white anymore, just kind of dull and I would like to restore them to white. Does anyone have suggestions on how to clean them. I tried the Mr Clean Eraser last year with...
