Newbie - adjusting chlorine and CYA

Ah, got it. I'll see what it will take to bring the level up higher on a regular basis. Forgot to use that chart from an earlier post. Thanks.

Newbie - adjusting chlorine and CYA

Friday - FC = 2.0 - added one gallon at night Saturday - FC = 5+ (measured first thing in morning) Sunday - FC = 2.0 (measured mid-afternoon - morning got away from me). Added half gallon at night, did NOT run the filter (rookie mistake). Monday - FC = 2.0 (added one gallon at night with filter...

Newbie - adjusting chlorine and CYA

Thanks all. I've been testing daily. Friday - FC = 2.0 - added one gallon at night Saturday - FC = 5+ (measured first thing in morning) Sunday - FC = 2.0 (measured mid-afternoon - morning got away from me). I plan to add a 1/2 gallon tonight and test again in the morning. I will spend this...

Newbie - adjusting chlorine and CYA

Thanks Woody - should my CYA be higher? It has not gone up at all through the months we've owned it, and we only use bleach, no pucks, so it should stay stable once I get it where we want it, right? ThankS!

Newbie - adjusting chlorine and CYA

Hi there! We have had our 16,000 gallon, in ground, plaster pool up and running for five months now - in northern California (mild winters, HOT relatively dry summers). Throughout the winter, I kept the numbers at minimum levels - CYA around 50, Free Chlorine around 2-3. (pH always in range...

New Pool Water, new to pools, help with testing

Thanks all. My pool is finally (mostly) balanced. After adding Hardness Plus, baking soda, CYA, and bleach (all at different times), my numbers today are: FC - .6 (added more bleach to correct, will retest tomorrow) pH - 7.2 TA - 80 CH - 300 CYA - well, I cheated here, because the test uses us...

New Pool Water, new to pools, help with testing

Thanks again, MKNAUSS. I will just get the Leslie's and get it in today. Once I raise the level, will this be something I need to have on hand in the future (I can get 25 lbs and hope its enough, or get the 45 and have lots of leftover)?

New Pool Water, new to pools, help with testing

okay, I'm so sorry to keep asking basic questions. I have spent hours now trying to find calcium chloride snow melt products. Most say CC but are really sodium chloride. I found one that is 94% CC, which is great, but when I called to verify with them, they told me that it will NOT dissolve in...

can I add the baking soda while the CYA is still dissolving? (you can't know how grateful I am to y'all, and esp. to you, mknauss!)

New Pool Water, new to pools, help with testing

I've got the CYA in socks in the pool as I type, with the pump on, hoping they will dissolve (it's been 12 hours). The ice melt that the store carried was NOT mostly calcium chloride, so I'm back at square one. I can have the right stuff on Friday for half the price of buying the hardness...

New Pool Water, new to pools, help with testing

Okay, buying the ice melt (largely calcium chloride, a bit of magnesium chloride and sodium chloride), the only thing I could find locally. It is, needless to say, in solid form. Can I just broadcast it over the pool while the pump is running and allow it to "melt" in that way?

New Pool Water, new to pools, help with testing

Sorry, wasn't clear. Per the testing directions, after I achieved the pH level (7.0), I added drops until it got to a level I wanted, which was then to be translated into how much to add to raise the pH to the level I wanted. It took 1 drop of the reagent to raise it to 7.2. Just sharing in case...

According to PoolMath: CH - to raise from 80 to 260 -- add 426 oz by weight or 341 oz by volume of Calcium Chloride (about 26 lbs of the stuff) (also on amazon: Amazon.com : 96% Pure CALCIUM CHLORIDE Snow Outdoor) CYA - to raise from ? to 40 -- add 85 oz by weight or 89 oz by volume of...

New Pool Water, new to pools, help with testing

Hi all - back from vacation and took a water testing at 8:30 this morning with my Taylor 2006: FC - 2.4 pH - 7.0 (took 1 drop to get to 7.2, 2 drops to 7.5) TA - 30 CH - 80 CYA - none We have not run the pump or done anything in the pool for a week - I left 2 pucks sitting in the floating...
