    Aquaglaze Resurfacing

Thanks mate, the info is much appreciated. What test kit do you use / recommend in Australia?

    Aquaglaze Resurfacing

I think you've convinced me! I guess the main thing that attracted me to the fibreglass concept was that it's a smooth surface and doesn't have the porosity which enables algae to take hold. Also I gather that chemical balance with pebblecrete has to be kept pretty spot on. Any thoughts on...

    Aquaglaze Resurfacing

For reference, the quotes are coming in pretty close. Acquaglaze is a bit cheaper as it includes waterline tiles for the same price as the best pebblecrete quote. Adding tiles to pebblecrete quotes raises the price substantially

    Aquaglaze Resurfacing

We're about to get our concrete pool resurfaced and it's come down to two options: 1. Pebblecrete; and 2. Fibreglass resurfacing (eg Aquaglaze) Has anyone had any experience with these, particularly the latter? Can you recommend it. PS. Please don't tell me I should tile the pool - it's not...

    Aquaglaze Resurfacing

I'll certainly get a comparison when it comes time to refurbish the pool. So far, all I've heard about this system are good things. I've got a saltwater system. CL levels are consistently pretty good (FC about 5ppm). The water stays crystal clear but I do get algae in the little pits in the...

    Aquaglaze Resurfacing

Aussies, Does anyone have any experience of the Aquaglaze pool resurfacing method: https://www.aqualinepoolresurfacing.com.au/ I've got a concrete pool and the plaster surface has become pitted which makes it almost impossible to clean off all the algae. It'll be time to resurface it soon and...

    Saltwater Pool Coversion vs Brickwork

Thanks for all your advice! I'm getting an SWG installed shortly. I'm looking forward to a summer where I'm not adding chlorine every five minutes!

    Saltwater Pool Coversion vs Brickwork

Good point. I guess I'm mainly nervous because I have had bricks go soft and start to spall on my house before (cause unknown) and, as an American, you'd find the cost of tradesmen/repairs in Sydney, Australia to be eye watering.

    Saltwater Pool Coversion vs Brickwork

It slopes away from the pool initially. There are a couple of drains to the stormwater drain in the deck which are fairly effective (you can see one to the right of the skimmer box, the other is approximately where I'm standing to take the photo). I have had some deposition of minerals/salts...

    Saltwater Pool Coversion vs Brickwork

That's a good thought. I imagine it would do no harm.

    Saltwater Pool Coversion vs Brickwork

Thanks, mate. Point taken about chlorine pools already being salt water pools! I guess what I'm worried about is the higher concentrations / the fact there is a lot more actual NaCl actually in my pool. Brickwork definitely can suffer if exposed to salt ingress (ie spalling etc) but I'm unsure...

    Saltwater Pool Coversion vs Brickwork

This is my pool. It's a standard chlorine pool, plaster over concrete construction, about 75,000 litres (20,000 gal I think - I'm in Australia). I'm thinking of converting it to saltwater, however I've got a few concerns and was hoping for some advice. 1. I've heard that saltwater is not the...

What is this? Algae? Dirt? Dead algae?

I have various test kits, none of which are great. Mostly take samples to the local pool shop, who seem fairly reliable operators. It just seems to me that I'd have vacuumed up all the dead algae by now, but it still seems to keep coming!
