    Leak Detection - Raypak 2100

Well you mirror trick works pretty well. I looks like I have a minor leak in the tube bundle. Since we are planning on moving in a few months, is there a way to plug the leak other than replacing the heat exchanger? Looking around the web, the part seems to be about $650 and I am disinclined...

    Leak Detection - Raypak 2100

Yeah, the first thing I did was to remove the small side panels and feel around as best I could for moisture. When you have a leak near the side doors, the water tends to soak the insulation blankets and that is a good hint! I was trying to avoid taking the burner tray out, but it looks like...

    Leak Detection - Raypak 2100

Yes, water on the floor around the heater (this is an indoor installation). Part of the problem is that the floor was not sloped properly when the concrete was poured so practically any leak in the pool room puddles around the heater (pump seals, filter o-rings, etc.). However, this one is...

    Leak Detection - Raypak 2100

Is there a recommended way to test for leaks in a Raypak 2100 heater? I have had several over the years (leaky drain plug on return side, loose connection on the pressure switch) but this time it is not so obvious. I suspect that it might be a leaky heat exchanger (ouch!) but maybe not. What...

    PVC Pipe Tool?

That might do the trick. I figured there must be something like that since oil filters on car have a similar beast. Thanks for the prompt reply John.

    PVC Pipe Tool?

I have a Raypak heater that is leaking at the point where the PVC pipes from the pool attach to the heater. The pipes are secured with two screw-on collars obviously meant to be hand tightened, but if they were King Kong did the installation. I think this is a simple matter of unscrewing the...

    Leaking Pump

Thanks for the reply. I figured it had to be the shaft seal since everything else was replaced, in the last six months. I wish I had thought of that when I ordered up the O-rings, cause it takes me about a week to get the parts where I live via mail order.

    Leaking Pump

I just replaced the diffuser O-ring and seal plate ring gasket (thanks to Pool Clown and dbfan for advice on that project). My problem is that when I powered up, the thing is still leaking from looks to be underneath under the motor, not the seal plate. The trap basket lid and drain plug...

turn a singlespeed pump into a 2 speed one?

You can adjust the speed of a motor, within certain limits, by controlling the voltage applied to the windings. Since the components of most motors are designed only for a specific amount of electricity that means you can slow a motor down but you can't make it go faster since applying more...

    Reassembling Sta-Rite Pumps

I know there must be a trick to this. I am in the process of replacing the O-rings on my pool and spa pumps, both the small ones that go around the center of the impeller, and the larger (about 9") ones that seal the motor and impeller side to the strainer basket side. I have swapped the...
