    Solar panel underlayment

@Dirk thanks again. Couldn't agree more about h2otsun.com, really good and clear information there. I have been using that website to plan out my install. Also, in case it helps anyone else in the future, Solar Direct technical support confirmed that underlayment is not required on shingle...

    Solar panel underlayment

I do really like the construction and assembly of Heliocol. Ideally I'd have chosen them. These panels just fell into my lap, so with about $200 in replacement hardware I'll have what I think is a decent solar heater. Plus I estimate that my roof only has about 3 - 5 years left on it, and it...

    Solar panel underlayment

The groves run from the top of the panel to the bottom. Will be calling Solar Direct soon. Thanks again for the help.

    Solar panel underlayment

Same type of roof, with asphalt shingles. I suppose they could help with wear on the underside of the panels against the shingles during expansion.

    Solar panel underlayment

@Dirk thanks for taking the time. It's a good idea to contact them directly. Also, after searching the forum and seeing results for those panels, I had a bit of selection bias and just assumed everyone knew what they were, my fault. And it's a pretty standard sloped residential roof with...

    Solar panel underlayment

Recently was given a set of 4 year old solar direct Vortex panels from a friend that no longer wanted them after getting a new roof. They look in good shape and I plan on installing them on my house soon. The panels were previously installed with thin, corrugated fiberglass sheets under each...

    Crack in plaster with leak

Recently I started to suspect my pool's water level dropping faster than it should. I added some water and hadn't worried too much about it yet, thinking maybe it was just evaporation. Well, yesterday while swimming I noticed some severe cracks around some existing efflorescence (at least, I...

Is a heat pump with defrost function worth it?

Thanks all, really appreciate the info. It seems like a defrost function on a pool heat pump really doesn't have much practical value then, which probably explains why there are not very many options with it explicitly.

Is a heat pump with defrost function worth it?

I've been looking into switching to a heat pump from propane to heat my in-ground pool and spa. My main motivations for switching are the high cost of propane (delivered, $3+ per gallon) and the generally terrible customer service from propane suppliers in the area. I've read that having a heat...

    Hayward h250 delayed ignition

Well, I completed my cleaning and reassembly of basically then entire burner system, and after a handful of starts, it seems like the problem was fixed ? Here's what I did: * took off the gas manifold and all the burner orifices (the inside looked fine, but blasted it out with an air compressor...

    Hayward h250 delayed ignition

Really appreciate the response, but given the age of my heater, I don't have much hope that this particular problem would have been recently corrected by the manufacturer. This weekend I plan on taking off the gas manifold completely and getting that cleaned out as best I can. From there, maybe...
