    Line blower for closing

I see that the Air Supply Cyclone blower is kind of the go-to for this job, but the $350 price tag is a bit much for something that I'll use for 5 minutes a year. I don't have a massive amount of height to blow this water, only a few feet. I've tried it with my shop vac before and was able to...

cloudy water - not free floating DE and the pH is good - what next?

I've been shocking the pool for a few nights in a row with no change. I understand the FC is zero right now, that's because I took the reading during the day. With zero CYA I dont bother adding chlorine during the day because it burns off too fast. Chlorine has not helped this situation.

cloudy water - not free floating DE and the pH is good - what next?

FC=0 pH=7.5 CH=50 TA=50 CYA=0 When I said the pH was off the charts, it was too high. I ran the filter all last night. Backwashed the filter this morning and it's been running for 13 hours now. Maybe it looks better? I'm attaching an image. There is a pattern on my liner that should be visible...

cloudy water - not free floating DE and the pH is good - what next?

The FC was probably 0 when I took the pH reading. Ok, I'll keep at it, this is different from the past 4 years I've done this. I'm having a hard time imagining it taking the filter this long to clean stuff up. Hopefully it's that simple. Thanks for your input

cloudy water - not free floating DE and the pH is good - what next?

The filter was on and running. I fixed the filter grid and o-ring. I "SLAMed" it the first 2 days. I gave up to address the issue with the cloudyness. pH is about 7.6 right now. I only tested the calcium because of the cloudyness. I'd have to test the rest of those tonight, but haven't heard of...

cloudy water - not free floating DE and the pH is good - what next?

Opened the pool last week so it's time for my yearly post. Everything was going well and on the second morning the water got milky. At first I thought it was DE. I turned the filter off to let things settle...and they never did. I took the filter apart to inspect the grids and I found a tiny...

Gotchas with a partial drain and refill of a vinyl lined pool?

CYA levels are still high, about 105. I'm thinking about doing a partial drain and refill. Most people say to drain halfway and fill, but I've also heard that you need to be careful about how much you drain an inground vinyl pool. Are there any pointers I should take into account here?

Changing the bulb in an underwater light

So it looks like my pool light was left on all winter and the bulb is now burnt out. I've never changed the bulb before, so before I start unscrewing things I wanted to run a few things by you guys. This light is a circular light that's about 2 feet below the surface and is cut into the liner...

Adding baking soda to boost TA - water is cloudy now

I have a tft kit, but I have the strips so I figured I would use them up. So adding baking soda should not cause the water to get cloudy? Ok, when I get home I'll run a fell set of numbers

Adding baking soda to boost TA - water is cloudy now

My TA was low enough not to show up in my test (just using strips right now). Using the pool math I need to add ~41 pounds. Well, just to be safe I've only added 15lbs over the past two days. The TA is now showing up on the test but relatively low, around 40. The water in the pool was completely...

Cannot get this union nut on for the life of me

I sprung a leak the other day in supply line to my heater. I cut out all the old and got all the new stuff in, but after trying for about two hours my dad and I could not get the union nut onto the fitting after about an hour of trying. We tried the old nut to see if maybe we got the wrong type...

    CYA levels off the chart?

I did the test again with diluted water and got a reading of ~110%, so it's not so outrageous as I was expecting. Maybe I'll hook up one of my gutters to the pool and slowly replace

    CYA levels off the chart?

Thanks for all the responses. Luckily I dont live in an area with water restrictions. I'm going to take a water sample down the road and see if they run into the same results, that will most likely be the case and I'll have to call in the water trucks :/ If I wanted to drop the CYA down to...

    CYA levels off the chart?

the pucks were just a last minute thing, I dont have any more and wont be buying any more. I guess my main question is, is a CYA level this high going to be a real problem for me?
