    Degreaser at opening ?

Oh its pretty light, usual dirt accumulated from the winter, I'm not seeing any alguea yet. Almost every pool store or hardware store has a pool degreaser of some kind and they are often included in pool opening kits. I'll stick to liquid chlorine only!

    Degreaser at opening ?

Is there any point in using a degreaser when opening the pool, to help with gunk removal from the vinyl?

A couple of freezing nights coming up - keep the pool running or drain?

I'm in Quebec city. I'll monitor my water temperature until tomorrow, but I'll probably close next Saturday

A couple of freezing nights coming up - keep the pool running or drain?

The weather forecast changed a lot, which messed up my plan of lowering my chlorine level a bit before adding polyquat 60 24h prior to closing. Outdoor temp won't rise above 4c for the next two days and will drop to -5c both nights/mornings, with wind chill of -10 at night and 2c during the...

Creating my own test kit with Taylor reagents

But they all get the same result, while not using the same machine. Also, I had to drain half of my pool this summer, went from exactly 80 to 40. Guess I got lucky several times?

A couple of freezing nights coming up - keep the pool running or drain?

I try to close my pool as late as possible in the season to make its reopening easier by having cleaner water in the spring. It seems everyone around here (Québec city) has already closed its pool in the last few weekends, which seems premature since we got 20c today and will get a couple of...

Creating my own test kit with Taylor reagents

But is the cya test really that inaccurate? I've had this test done in many stores and they are all within 10% of each other, can't be that bad?

Creating my own test kit with Taylor reagents

Hi, I'm in Canada so good test kits are hard to find and expensive. I've found the k-2600 in a couple of places, but I realize the only test in it I really, really need is the FAS-DPD test to get accurate high chlorine readings. Other tests... well my cheaper test kit seems to be good enough...

    What to do before closing

Here's the part I'm not sure I'm getting right. If the Ph raise caused by chlorine is temporary and goes aways as the chlorine is used, that raise should be present as long as there is free chlorine, right? So if I let all the chlorine get used without adding any, the Ph should drop below the...

    What to do before closing

Isn't the general recommendation to drop Ph to 7.2-7.3 before a SLAM because liquid chlorine, with its high Ph of around 13, raises the general. Ph of the pool?

    What to do before closing

So I got thinking... I've been running with a low-ish alkalinity level most of summer (45-50), anything above that and I have to add acid every two days when on liquid chlorine. If I raise my chlorine level to 10-12 before closing the pool for winter, while maintaining a proper Ph, won't this Ph...

    What to do before closing

Turns out I had a bottle in my shed 😂 But it's been there for a year and went through a winter, I'll get another one. Regarding the best chlorine level for usage, I'm currently at 40 of CYA, so 5-7 chlorine for day to day and 16 for slam. Do I drop down to 5-7 before adding the algaecide or...
