Heater or No Heater for Houston New Pool Build

Laura, We live in the same area (Sugar Land) and the next time we turn our heater on to heat our 25+ year old pool will be the first! We really like to use the heater when it is cold out for the spa, but if we did not have the spa, I would NOT want a heater. Heaters are not only expensive, they...

    IntelliCenter Quick Reference/Information Guide

@MyAZPool Thanks for what you have contributed here - I just found this thread and find it very useful. FYI though, the Pentair links all seem to be broken again. Or at least they are not working from my PC. For example, I get a fail message similar to this one for every link: Cannot serve...

Automation Conversion from Jandy to Pentair

Hey neighbor! I installed my Intellitouch myself in 2007, and while the programming planning and programming itself took loads of time, the box, wiring, etc. were no big deal at all. I too have an IntelliFlo pump and MasterTemp heater. I triple LOVE the IntelliFlo + Intellitouch implementation...

    Help // Oasis to Green

Brushing is such a pain, so you can probably ignore that for now except for spots that your robot cannot reach. Definitely run your pump and robot 24/7 though if you're shooting for the best looking water in less than 24 hours. The robot will pick up any dead algae "dust" and keep it in...

    Help // Oasis to Green

We just cross posted, so I see your now a Gold Supporter - great! They will send you a coupon that is good for some money off from your TFTestkits order if you have not completed that yet.

    Help // Oasis to Green

I purchased the larger bottle TF-Pro + XL + smart stir and I am very glad that I did. However, if you do not keep your pool open year round like we do in Houston, TX area, then you may not need the bigger bottles. Everyone seems to universally love having a smart-stir, so don't forget to add...

Not understanding the lure of robotic cleaners..

I purchased a Riptide XL, and used it very successfully to clean our pool one time. The following weekend I purchase a robot - a Leslie's branded Polaris VRX iQ+ (same as Polaris's ALPHA IQ+ except for color scheme), and I have no plans to ever use the Riptide XL again. I understand why paid...

Should I upgrade from Super pump VSP 1.65 to Tristar vsp 1.85 ? (crazy utility Rebate)

Did you notice that the rebate "fine print" states "The rebate amount cannot be more than 50 percent of the retail purchase price paid."?

Should I upgrade from Super pump VSP 1.65 to Tristar vsp 1.85 ? (crazy utility Rebate)

Sounds like a great opportunity, but make sure they do not require that you are upgrading from a fixed speed pump. If they will let you get the rebate going from a VSP to another VSP, it sounds to me like you are gaining an advantage from a loophole in what the power company is trying to achieve...

Good test values, still occasional light algae dusting

Sorry this was so confusing, and I definitely did not mean to run your blower! It sounds like you are already circulating you hot tub water whenever the pump is running. We run our pump continuously during daylight hours at 30 GPM. We are draining from pool skimmer and hot tub drain and...

First TF-100 Tests - Results and Questions on Plan - Update: Resolution and pics!

You already have a bucket of tabs, and you need CYA, so have you considered using some 3in tabs now? Too much use of Tri-chlor (typical 3in tabs) is disastrous and results in way too much CYA. I learned that the hard way with CYA at 164 ppm back in March, before I found TFP and had to do a...

Good test values, still occasional light algae dusting

I'm in the Houston area too, and in addition to following TFT "chemistry" practices, we're running our variable speed pump slowly during all sunshine hours (or at least during the 9 warmer months of the year). If you are not doing this already, it might be worth a try. I see you have a hot tub...

A few questions regarding a new Stenner pump installation

trivetman and FnC80, Thanks so much, I appreciate both of your suggestions. So, my current plan is now to: - Wire the Stenner relay 220 to a weatherproof outlet and jbox - And, get a 220v male to 220v female "adapter" so that I can do maintenance (annual peristaltic tube changes) inside (in...

A few questions regarding a new Stenner pump installation

Rick (rphpool), Thanks for your reply! I'd love to see some photos of what you've done! I seem to recall you saying in another thread that you covered a Stenner with a garbage can. I actually searched garbage can dimensions and what I found would look terrible, and definitely not fly with my...
