    Is this possible?

Just got done shocking my pool for about 3 days. I hadn't tested PH during this time because I read on this site that PH test is unreliable at high chlorine levels. With CYA=60, I was shocking in the FC=high 20s. FC is now down to 10.5ppm and I tested PH expecting it to be high since I shocked...

    Inconsistent CYA test results

As the title of this thread implies, I've been getting inconsistent CYA test results. I have a test kit with the black dot CYA test. Sometimes I get 30ppm, sometimes closer to 60ppm. I've been maintaining chlorine levels consistent with CYA=60ppm just to be safe (actually a little higher due to...

    High chlorine demand

Sorry. I guess that's the point of the question. Not sure what high is. CYA is 60. I've been raising FC to 9 at night, it's 7.5-8.0ish in the morning and back at 4-5 by evening. Only started BBB about a week ago so no idea what was going on before that. I've probably never technically shocked...

    High chlorine demand

Is high chlorine demand an indication that I need to shock my pool? Every since switching to BBB a week ago my water is crystal clear and I don't accumulate nearly as much "junk" at the bottom of the pool. However, my chlorine demand is 4-5ppm per day. Not sure if this is within normal...

    Normal chlorine consumption rate

Thanks for the clarification. The only reason I'd been at 15ppm is ignorance and my reliance on the pool store.

    Normal chlorine consumption rate

Trying to wrap my brain around this. So the lower my FC is the less I will lose to the sun? So if 8ppm is my target and 5ppm is my minimum, the closer it gets to 5ppm the less will be consumed? Thanks! Doji

    Normal chlorine consumption rate

I finally broke down last week and bought a test kit that allows you to test chlorine levels above 5ppm. After being told by the pool store guys for over a year that my CYA was 100 ("That's as high as we can test for but it's ok since you live in Florida" or my favorite "Take the pucks out for a...

    Beginner Questions

Not sure how old the plaster is. It was like that when we bought the house a year ago. Should I be able to vacuum silt through the filter? I usually vacuum to waste. Seems like the few times I did it through the filter I couldn't see the bottom by the time I was done. Not sure how to check the...
