    Frustrated with Iron Stains

Haven't thought of that. Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, we get our fair share of rain here in south Louisiana. Lol

I have but I'll review it again. Maybe I missed something before. Thank you.

    Frustrated with Iron Stains

This is the problem I always run into: most of the treatment products tell you that the chlorine needs to be at or close to zero. Then I get caught in a loop of seeing algae, having to raise the chlorine, and then having stains back which puts me right back where I started. This last time, I...

    Frustrated with Iron Stains

I've about resigned myself to the fact that we will always have a yellow stained pool due to the iron content in our well water. After being a new pool owner for the past 3 years and knowing nothing about them going in, I believe I've mastered just about everything but this. I have tried all...

    another pool with Algea ?

Based upon the pictures, I think I am facing a similar algae problem. I'd like to ask a couple of questions about the SLAM process which I hope will be beneficial to ttran2016 as well: The liquid bleach mentioned is it just your regular bottle of bleach that can be bought at any store? Do...

    Latest Results/Safe To Swim?

Ah, ok. Then yes, that's the test I performed to arrive at the FC and CC values. Just didn't realize it was called FAS-DPD.

    Latest Results/Safe To Swim?

Yes, I am using the TF-100 test kit. Thank you for the suggestion. I just added it to my signature. Is the FAS-DPD test a separate kit I need to purchase? - - - Updated - - - I have attempted to use pool math. Still trying to grasp everything being a complete rookie. It's a big...

    Latest Results/Safe To Swim?

With regards to draining, are we talking about a complete drain or partial one? I thought I've read that draining the pool completely is a bad idea/dangerous? If it's a partial drain, how low is safe to go?

    Latest Results/Safe To Swim?

Yes, 3" chlorinated tablets. I've had the feeder set to 1.5 practically the whole week but turned it off yesterday after doing the daily test when it seemed like the chlorine level just wasn't going down the past few days.

    Latest Results/Safe To Swim?

Thank you for the reply! I have looked at both of those but am a newbie to pool maintenance so still in the learning stage. I performed the diluted test with the CYA coming back as 160. What do you suggest?

    Latest Results/Safe To Swim?

My latest test results below: pH = 7.5 FC = 14 CC = 0.5 CH = 75 TA = 120 CYA = 100 When I've performed the daily test the last few days, the Cl hasn't even registered, it is orange which I'm assuming is well above 5 ppm. So, I guess my big question is, is it safe to swim or is the chlorine...

Newbie - Which Tests to Perform First?

Thanks again. So two more questions now I guess: 1. How do I drain the pool? 2. Is it safe to swim in or does #1 need to be done first?

Newbie - Which Tests to Perform First?

Thanks so much for the reply. Here is my first crack at the tests: pH: 7.2 - 7.5 FC: 13 CC: 0.5 CH: 75 TA: 130 CYA: 100

Newbie - Which Tests to Perform First?

Just received the TF-100 test kit. I'm a complete rookie when it comes to pools and feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the information provided which I've tried to digest thus far (ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry, Recommended Levels, Chlorine / CYA Chart, etc.). Which tests do I perform first or do...
