    Replace ALL the light fixtures???

Hi I posted a few weeks ago when the light in the spa kept tripping the GFI circuit. My pool repair person said the cord had a short and would need to replace the entire fixture at a cost of around $900. Seemed expensive but as I mulled it over the 3 pool lights (all on one switch) now are...

Educate me on auto cover. Is it worth it?

I'm in Southern CT and have had a rectangular pool (20' x 40') with a motorized cover for about 12 years. I had to replace the cover last year and it cost around 15K. It probably should have been done 2 years earlier because there were small leaks throughout and the cover kept filling with...

    Does a cover increase algae?

I have an automatic pool cover and before this heat wave it was closed up for a good part of the day. As it warmed up suddenly I'm struggling with my pool chemistry- I can't keep the FC at a good level- pretty sure I have algae and wondering if keeping it covered allows it to grow more? This...

Need to replace pool light but the price!

My pool is about 18 years old, I have 3 lamps in the pool and 1 in the spa. These are halogen lamps with the long wire to enable bulb replacement. Over the years I replaced all the bulbs 1-3 times but last year I was surprised to find the lamp in the spa tripped the circuit breaker when I turned...

Recommended Levels?- Trouble Free vs Pentair

When they opened the pool (around 5/8) they must have dumped in some chemicals. It was even higher until 2 days ago they came back and I think dumped more things in and this is where we are now. I can always pour in liquid bleach to get it up a bit and then let the SWG take over.

Recommended Levels?- Trouble Free vs Pentair

ajw22- great! happy not to buy or dump in more chemicals. If I want to get the FC up though I do need to add salt because the SWG will not go on until I get the level up. Thanks

Recommended Levels?- Trouble Free vs Pentair

Here is what I measured this AM with the pool water @ 68F and having been opened about 8 days ago FC- 5 (waiting for it to go down) CC- ? pH- 7.0 (expecting this to climb) TA- 50 CH- 450 (but my regents are a bit old- getting fresh ones) CYA- 70 Salt- 2840 (will be slowly dumping in more salt to...

Recommended Levels?- Trouble Free vs Pentair

Excellent! Thank you! In that case my chemistry is looking pretty good. I'm low on my TA but much closer than if I followed Pentair.

Recommended Levels?- Trouble Free vs Pentair

Hi just trying to get things good before I take my first dive in. Water is already 68F here in the Northeast! Was checking the chemicals, looking at recommended levels and found a pretty big difference between the levels recommended by Trouble Free (TF) and those from my Pentair Intellichlor...

    Pool opened Chlorine way high!

I'll just go slow with the borax- not a huge rush to dive in the pool as the water is cold- but would like to use the spa, which is attached.

Oh- what do I do? Wait for FC to go down?

    Pool opened Chlorine way high!

I have been testing with my Taylor K2005 FAS-DPD kit. For the pH the color was off the scale (below 7.0) on the Comparator (very yellow) so I used an electronic pH tester I have for brewing to get to 6.7. For the other values I have FC= 10, pH= 6.7, TA= 40, and the CYA= 55- That is the only...

    Pool opened Chlorine way high!

Guess I need the Borax! But my pool math app is saying I need 17lbs! That is a lot of Borax... I'm trying to get pH from 6.7 to 7.7 and the pool is about 37,500 gallons
