    Choosing a new pump

I think I’ve narrow it down to an onga enviromax 800 (aka eco 800) or pantera ppp eco 800. They seem to be very similar and both made by pentair. PPP eco pros: Shorter length which is handy in the small space I have. The p300 only had about 300mm of a horizontal run into the inlet and the...

    Choosing a new pump

I need to replace an astral pool P300 and I'm spoilt for choice and don't really know what I'm looking for. Can redo the pipework if need. The total head is less than a meter and the pool is only 40KL so I guess I don't need a big one. Not sure whether to go for AC or DC also - I gather AC is...

    Is my pump dead?

I think I need to just replace it. In trying to pull it apart I undid a screw that turned out to be holding an internal nut that was holding a bearing in place. To get access to that nut I had to pull the entire pump apart, including a lot of bashing and swearing to get bearings off. I don't...

    Is my pump dead?

It’s an astral pool p300. After getting the impeller off I think the leak is the ceramic mechanical seal. I don’t really see corrosion on anything important thankfully. Hopefully I can just replace the seal and get a couple more years out of it. It’s an old pump though. Built in 2011.

    Is my pump dead?

Update: there is definitely a leak in the pump itself. Once I cleared off the salt properly I noticed water dripping between the main body of the pump and the housing for the motor. The leak is so bad that it drips out without the pump even running, just from the pressure of the water sitting in...

    Is my pump dead?

I noticed this morning the pump was running but water wasn't flowing. The waterline is high enough for the intake I cleared the baskets in the skimmer box and in the pump I tried manually priming by blocking the intake, opening the lid and filling up with water and closing the lid tight and...

Flooded - Is my vinyl pool a ticking time bomb now?

So I have a vinyl lined below ground pool that came with the house when I bought it. It was installed a long time ago and the neighbors say they think the pool is made of metal sheets underneath. The construction of the top of the pool looks something like this: Where the blue is the liner...

Is this algae? Pool shop recommending algaecide and clarifier

I'll definitely be much more careful in future, lesson learned on that one the hard way.. Back to my original question - is it normal for it to take this long? I've been SLAMing it for a week now. Ph was good, pump is running, and it gets brushed and vacuumed.

Is this algae? Pool shop recommending algaecide and clarifier

I tested it with the kit at 60, thought it seemed a bit higher than I expected and tested it again at 50 but didn't really know what to make of it. I wasn't thinking about the liner and at the time figured "well I'm not really sure what the CYA is exactly, what's the harm in assuming it's 60 and...

Is this algae? Pool shop recommending algaecide and clarifier

I've been slamming the pool for about a week now. Last night I tried an overnight chlorine drop test and between 7pm and 6am it went from 34.5ppm to 32ppm, and also overnight a layer of green dust (dead algae?) appeared on the bottom again. I did check ph before starting last week and it was...

Is this algae? Pool shop recommending algaecide and clarifier

I got clumps from here: Mustard Algae - Trouble Free Pool The other thing is it’s been held at shock level for like 4 days now, and the dust keeps accumulating even after brushing and vacuuming and according to that TFP article mustard algae doesn’t do that. Not that I know what it is, and...

Is this algae? Pool shop recommending algaecide and clarifier

I did one last night. It might have lost 1-2 ppm between about 7pm and 7am. When I do multiple tests of the same sample it can vary so I'm not really sure how to take that result. I finally have a video of what the stuff looks like:

I do have the ultra fine filter for my dolphin s200, I don’t think they have a finer one.

Is this algae? Pool shop recommending algaecide and clarifier

I don’t, I’m not at home this week and my partner’s phone camera doesn’t work unfortunately. I didn’t think it was mustard algae because it doesn’t clump at all, in fact you can’t even see it without brushing it to kick it up. If it is brushed or cleaned you can see the spot difference between...

Is this algae? Pool shop recommending algaecide and clarifier

My pool seems to constantly have green dust on the bottom. The water is clear but If I brush the bottom and sides it kicks up. PH and TA is fine, CYA at 50. Chlorine has been held at 5-6 PPM. If I run the cleaner (Dolphin s200)I’m not sure if it actually picks it up or just kicks it off the...
