Update: the spot is still there. He now wants to drain the pool and acid wash. The pool was acid washed initially, so unfortunately this makes 2 acid washes a little over a month apart.

Yes, the overflow stopped once I shut off the auto-fill. Looks like tomorrow I will have to adjust the float to be lower than it is now.
