Poolsmith CO2 injection for pH control

You will have to experiment on the flow rates and injection time settings. The system comes with some recommendations based on pool size, but that is really just a starting point.

    Swimex equipment questions

Thanks, understood. I doubt the standard equipment is VSP, but it might be two speed. Will investigate. Worst case I can eliminate the pump from the order and get credit, then have the installer sub in a different model locally. If there are sidewall water jets which run on a separate pump, I...

    Swimex equipment questions

It's a model 500 OS. Yes, I quoted the overall pool size rather than the water surface, my mistake. The manufacturer doesn't recommend a SWG, though the reasons stated don't make sense to me. In any case, I'm not expecting that the chlorine usage will be very high given the conditions, so I will...

    Swimex equipment questions

After doing some research and trying out a unit, we've decided to include a Swimex pool in our new home plans. The pool will be in indoor conditioned space, covered when not in use, and holds about 2600 gallons. Surface area is approximately 8x18 feet. Pool will be used pretty much every day...

    Swimex questions

I'm inclined to go with "conventional" chlorination as a starting position and see how that goes. If chlorine demand is higher than I expect it will be, I can always convert to an SWG later. Just need to make sure the plumbing leaves room for the addition of a salt cell without major rework.

    Swimex questions

I don't *know* what the chlorine usage will be, but under the conditions described above I would tend to think it will be relatively light. Seems like it would take several years before salt accumulation reaches that of a SWG pool. If salt and/or CYA build up become issues over time, the...

    Swimex questions

There are a lot of variables here that are different from a typical outdoor pool application. The pool is small (probably in the 2600 gallon range), will be indoors, covered when not in use, relatively light bather load (typically one person for 1 to 2 hours daily). The pool will have stainless...

    Swimex questions

Considering having a Swimex pool installed in the home we are planning. It would be indoors. Have a couple of questions: On the Swimex website FAQ, they don't recommend salt chlorination. To quote: "We recommend against the use of salt sanitizers. If not balanced properly it will lead to...

    Fiberglass vs. gunite pool

I was planning to have a pool heater. I wouldn't think I will need to cool the water, and because the need to heat will be greatest in the winter months, perhaps a heat pump would not work as well as a gas heater. I think it would be highly advisable to have the pool room on its own separate...

    Fiberglass vs. gunite pool

Understand the need for good ventilation and humidity control. Did not know about UV, need to research this. When you say "temperature control", do you mean for the pool room or the pool water? Is this different from just using a heater to heat the water when needed?

    Fiberglass vs. gunite pool

We are just starting the planning for construction of a new home in the Asheville, NC area. My wife swims every day, and we are considering including an indoor pool in the plan so she can use it year round. Nothing fancy, probably just a simple 30' x 10' rectangle without any water features. We...

    Kihei Maui

Maui is my favorite Hawaiian island, very diverse. Lots of great stuff has already been mentioned. If you want to splurge for a great meal, we really liked Mama's Fish House which would be on the way to the road to Hana via the north shore. Also thought the Iao Valley State Monument was pretty...

    Hayward VSP not running

Update: I flipped the DIP switches so that I could control the pump from the local interface (instead of Omnilogic), and the pump fired right up and started priming. I put the DIP switches back to Omnilogic control, and now everything is back to normal. Don't understand what happened, but all...

    Hayward VSP not running

Was checking the pool this morning and noticed that the filter pump (Hayward Tristar SP3202VSP) was not running. Checked the pump diagnostic on the Omnilogic, and it reports a "DC voltage is too low" error. According to the troubleshooting guide in the pump manual for this error, it states...

    Opinion on rubber bristles brush

A couple of months ago I was in the market for a new brush, and happened to see a rubber-bristled model at Walmart. I decided to try it thinking it might wear better than the typical nylon-bristled brush. But I've found that it is MUCH harder to use, way too much friction to allow it to move...
