I like this idea of installing a valve, seems the most cost effective, will this not put undo strain on the pump?

My only thoughts are sticking with the same brand it looks about the same size and plumbing is in all the right spots, I assume if I switch brands this may require some plumbing work etc?

I've been looking at those, wanted to stick with the Sta -Rite if could, looks like their variable is 1-3 HP

I forgot to mention we had a little accident with the pool pump this fall and it came on after my pool was closed and the pump ran dry for 8 hours, it's probably toast.

My pool pump quit about 2 years ago and I replaced it with what I thought was the same HP pump, but the water coming out of the eyes is ridiculous. You literally can not sit/stand in front of them as it blasts out of them, almost like being in a hot tub. My original pump was a Sta-Rite Max E...

That's my thoughts too, I will be getting a new pump next season, hopefully that will fix it!

Pressure is about 25, see my response about my pump the flow is very strong with this new pump, to the point of ridiculous.

I do not have a main drain that is a side suction vacuum drain, that I do not use and have it shut off. I corrected my signature, that was not my pump, I actually have a 1 1/2 HP Pentair Stay Rite Max E Pro. But let's talk about that. That is a new pump I got last year same HP as the ole one...

Is the impeller inside the round housing with the metal band, any easy way to get to that?

Water level is about 3/4 of the way up the skimmer where I usually keep it. No big, hit me with them because I agree it may be something easy

When I turn the pump on the weir drop doors, checked it by hand and it is not sticky
