    Pool Pilot Output Settings

The SC-60 cell is sold as having a 50,000 gallon capacity, and, as I recall Sean saying, this is based on 24 hour chlorine production, i.e. 24 hour pump run time. So, your results in a 32,000 gallon pool don't seem out of line. I agree that increasing the CYA level to 60-80 might make the...

RELEASE AND WAIVER OF LIABILITY FOR USE OF THE SWIMMING POOL

It's been a while since our kids were small, but our unbreakable rule was "All children must have one of their parents present; otherwise they were not allowed in our pool area." This tended to cut down on the number of kids and shifted the primary responsibility to their parent(s).

PoolPilot DIG-220 Temp off by several degrees

I, too, have noticed that my PoolPilot seems to read a few degrees higher than the thermometer. Of course, I'm not sure if the thermometer is accurate either. Hopefully PoolSean can chime in with some information on your calibration question.

New Setup: Borax, SWG, Overall Balance

Waterbear, thanks for the feedback on alkalinity; I hoped you might chime in on this. I got the CA (carbonate alkalinity) nomenclature from Ben's Step-by-Step Guide to lowering alkalinity. I presumed that it's the same as corrected TA. If I take TA down to 80 that would equate to a corrected...

New Setup: Borax, SWG, Overall Balance

I've just completed my initial setup of a SWG system with Borax and would appreciate feedback on the current measurements and any recommended changes: FC = 5 (am still adjusting but plan to keep around 5 ppm because of unpredictable heavy bather loads.) CC = 0 pH = 7.7 CA = 100 (TA corrected...

    Chemical Cleaning of Sand Filter

Thanks folks. I've used nothing but the normal chlorine products (bleach, tri-chlor, cal-hypo) over the life of the filter and no other "stange" chemicals. So, I'll take a look when I get it open and hopefully find the sand in good shape. P.S. I've used DE as a filter enhancer occassionally...

    Chemical Cleaning of Sand Filter

How can I tell if chemical cleaning of our sand filter is necessary? It's about 6 years old and has had sand added one time that I know of. No special cleaning chemicals have ever been used. Clean pressure is 19 psi and is partially caused by a "too large" pump, 1.5 inch pipe for a portion of...

Pump too large for filter: Problem??

Transferred reply from Duraleigh: Hi, Chuck, There's some pretty smart engineer types floating (no pool-related pun intended) around here that can give more scientific insight but: A: you could reduce flow by restricting a valve on the return side of the system. That would cause your pump to...

Pump too large for filter: Problem??

Transferred: I need some help on pump and filter sizing and would appreciate any feedback anyone can offer. We have a Pentair UltraFlow 1 HP full-rated pump feeding a Pentair Tagelus TA 60D sand filter. Based on the measured total dynamic head (using input vacuum and output pressure) of 56...
