Cut in seating area in pool with jets

Check that your jets are assembled correctly. I had this happen when one of my jets was missing a sealing ring in the swivel part.

    Pool Evaporation

For what it's worth, I'm in Burlington and use a solar cover whenever we aren't swimming.. Rain typically more than makes up for evaporation in my pool an I end up having to drain off some water at least twice a summer.

What size Solar Cover Reel Do I need?

My pool if 16' wide and I have a GLI hurricane reel. It's the only one I've tried but seems to work well. The width is adjustable during assembly. The spindle is telescopic.

Slide or No Slide...that is the question.

Having hit my forehead on the floor of a neighbor's pool as a child after going down the slide head first (not a practice I would recommend), I can confirm that they can be somewhat dangerous. I was lucky and only needed stitches but I am well aware that it could have been much worse.

    Diving Board Waterall...

I've heard mention on this site of some insurance companies refusing to insure you if you have a diving board (or trampoline for that matter). Might want to look into that side of things before moving forward.

    When to heat?

I got my test kit from tftestkits.net and had it shipped to a friend in the US. The Taylor equivalent is incredibly expensive in Canada. I only heat very occasionally. With my solar cover, the pool will usually stay around 82 although with the two inches of rain we just got, it went down to 75...

    When to heat?

I'm going to offer a counterpoint to those suggesting that leaving the heater on is the most efficient. Heat transfer theory shows that rate of heat transfer is dependant on the difference in temperature. By this logic, colder water will heat faster than warmer water. By the same token, on a...

    Grecian Lazy L

We have a vinyl in ground pool that is similar to the 3rd image. I like the shape and it works well in the location - off to the side of our back yard with the shallow end and steps angled towards the house. We use a solar cover and the shape makes it a little tricky to get the cover on and off...

    Stenner Pump Noise

Variable rate stenners do make a clicking sound when turned down. I don't find it annoying but it may be a reason to go with a fixed rate pump.

and now my wife wants a hot tub....

Not really sure how long it takes. There would be a number of variables, though. Volume of tub, heater wattage, temp, how waterlogged the cover is (ours needs replacing) , etc.

and now my wife wants a hot tub....

I'm in Burlington. We have a 7' square tub. I figure it runs about $40 per month or so in winter. If you aren't using it, you can set it to sleep mode and it will let the temp drop 20 degrees. We did this in February when it was really cold. Ours is sunken into a deck so only about 10" sticks...

    Self-bump... Somebody must know.

    Opening

You can buy a small submersible pump for around $100 that would do the job. I'm sure it would be cheaper in the long run than renting.
