    Adding chlorine

Welcome! Just take your clothes off when you add liquid chlorine - problem solved . If you keep your clothes on, you should be pouring VERY slow in front of a return to where there is no splash - it really shouldn't be an issue. Regarding your question about the CYA build up for just a...

    CYA is always ZERO....

Add 2 Kg by weight, or 2.1L by volume of stabilizer. FC is a little tougher because we don't know the strength of the Bleach you will be using AND there is a chance your FC has changed since you last measured. Make sure you put in your current levels under the NOW column and what you want to...

About ready to SLAM? Few Q's

Yes, you should get your CYA level up if you want the SLAM to work. If you don't raise your CYA, the Chlorine will burn up and won't be used to appropriately clean your pool! Take a look at PoolMath to figure out how much stabilizer you will need to get your CYA up to 30, then you need to get...

    CYA is always ZERO....

When you say stabilizer puck, are you referring to a chlorine puck? If so, that won't add a lot of CYA, and because your CYA is low the chlorine that the puck adds will burn up fast. Assuming you are testing CYA correctly and it is actually 0, you should add some granular/powder stabilizer...

    I'm screwed? 300 CYA

Remember, you can do the tarp drain/refill process. I successfully did this last week, it only took 2 days and it was very easy. My CYA was around 225+. I drained around 90% of my water which brought my CYA down to 0 and I'm currently running with a CYA of 30 and things are looking great...

first time pool owner, need the skinny on how to keep it clean w/o spending a fortune

Hi there! Welcome to the forum :D. I've been learning a TON from this forum recently and have adopted the Trouble Free Pool care "lifestyle" and wow - I can't believe it took me this long! I've been 'taking' quite a bit from this forum, so now it's time to give back! First things first...

Drain and refill in progress - fill water results!

So today was my day to get everything in order, good news, things look great! FC, and CYA were both 0 PH was 8 or above I'm targeting 30 CYA, so I currently have some socks with CYA in front of the jets, around 4lbs - according to PoolMath I'll need just over 5lbs, but I only bought a 4lb...

    I'm screwed? 300 CYA

I feel your pain! :( I'm in the process of an almost total drain. I went the route of the tarp method because I have a vinyl liner. Not as painful as it seems and I CAN'T WAIT to get my water balanced and actually understand what's going on with it daily! You, my friend, are in the right place.

Drain and refill in progress - fill water results!

As of this morning I needed about another 4 hrs of filling after a full night of running the water. I'm at work but my wife will cut off the water soon and when I get home my plan is to take the tarp out and get the water circulating. Since I'll be using 80-90% new water from the hose, should...

Drain and refill in progress - fill water results!

Great news...It seems as if the draining is complete. The hoses will run over night and we should be able to remove the tarp completely sometime tomorrow or Saturday depending on time and weather! I'll let the water mix together and run some numbers and report back. Here are a few picture...
