Just getting started, here's my plan, am I doing the right thing?

As we've been maintaining for a while, I've started to accrue empty bottles of Chlorine and Muriatic Acid. Do people just put these in the garbage? Do we need to do special disposal?

As you recommended, I unscrewed and wrapped some nylon tape, then tighten it back down. No leaks anymore!

Done! The advice has been well worth the price. On to the next issue. My pump has a leak that seems to be getting worse. When the pump turns on, this area spills a bunch of water, then eventually stops spilling. It used to leak only for a split second at pump startup. It seems like it is...

Just wanted to say wow and thank you again to everyone! Family broke in the pool for the first time today. FC was 9.5 when we started swimming. Baby loved it (after hating it for about 30s and we put her in the floater), had a blast splashing around. My wife has always loved pools, so she had...

After being done with our SLAM for a few days, it seems we drop from about 15 -> 10 ppm / day. Does this seem reasonable? With our CYA at 70, recommended level is 8-10. To ensure we don't ever drop below, I've been hedging at the top end of this range and adding approximately 2 qts @10% per day...

Thanks! If we want to slowly drain over time, to reduce our CYA, is it safe to drain pool water onto the grass? Will it kill the grass? Google searches tell me yes...but depending on the source, they also tell me I need a bunch of pool chemicals I don't need.:p

We passed the OCLT last night, and after the drain plug replacement, it is now bone dry under our filter (used to always be damp/wet). What FC would you let it drop to (I know 8-10 is recommended for our 70CYA) before feeling safe to let, for example, our little baby splash around (with many...

Also, whether we pass the overnight test or there are more learnings, I want to say such a genuine thank you. I felt pretty hopeless picking everything up fast enough when we moved in and had other house projects going on, but I've learned so much.

Welp, fortunately a pool repair service had someone available that was 10 min away from me. They came out, were also unable to open the drain valve. The valve had cracked in the center, and that's where the leak was coming from (I bet someone over tightened it long ago). This is also why the...

Just getting started, here's my plan, am I doing the right thing?

Welp...We brushed everything off. Pool is crystal clear including all walls. I decided I should clean the filter, and at the same time, replace the drain plug which has had a slow leak, so that we could pass overnight test. I got a 6 point hex wrench specifically for the pre-2005 pentair filter...

(No prior experience with pools). I had heard that up to SLAM levels was safe, but because we are maintaining constant SLAM level FC, I was concerned whether a minor FC measurement error (for example, actual is 31ppm instead of 28ppm) would still be safe to swim in.

There is very little algae still left on walls, its just hard to scrub in the very corners from outside the pool (will need a smaller brush and get in). Is it ok to leave these very minor areas till after, when we plan to get in the pool anyway?
