Seems like my robot is flaking off the pebble

Saltwater pool, 2.5 years old, I'm not great on adjusting the ph daily, I only adjust it about once a week and it's usually about 8.5 when I test it (estimation based on color). My calcium level have been really high for a year or so, was about 550 last year and up to about 950 this year. I...

Ideas to insulate auto cover over spa

Just want to close this thread out in case anyone else goes on the same journey. So I bought some bubble solar cover and tried this approach. Unfortunately my autocover sits right on the water and it was very difficult to get the bubble cover properly under the autocover without bunching up...

Ideas to insulate auto cover over spa

I would do it again in a heartbeat. I didn't want a raised spa because I wanted the autocover. My spa isn't tiny, so if I had to reheat from air temp every time I wanted to use it, it'd be really expensive and take well over an hour in the winter. If you have a smaller spa, it probably...

Ideas to insulate auto cover over spa

I like this! Might also be good to couple with the bubble wrap solution proposed to stick under the autocover. Thanks for the idea!! Edit: Now I just need to find a cheap piece of bubble wrap to try and float under the cover.

Ideas to insulate auto cover over spa

Not that I can think of, open to other ideas. All I have without the tarp as a secondary cover is the thin vinyl autocover. It found that it isn't very good at holding heat overnight when cold, same with the pool. Maybe since your spa is so big it holds the heat better than my 8x7 spa?

Ideas to insulate auto cover over spa

I looked at those in the store but then got worried where I would store 2 huge pieces of foam in the summer! I could still shove them under the tarp if I could figure out how to store them. I am interested to find out how much better that would hold the heat, the tarp keeps the spa at 78-80...

Ideas to insulate auto cover over spa

What do you mean by 3m backing? I could do some blue tape on the autocover bar and then put velcro on top of that. That could be removable after winter. Does 3M have a similar type product that is removable?

Ideas to insulate auto cover over spa

2x4 could have worked but it gets wet so the pressure treated ones are much heavier then regular I found. Outdoor rated 2x2’s were just about right. We’ll see how it holds up to the wind but so far so good. Should save me a small fortune on the spa heating bills!! If only I could find a good...

Ideas to insulate auto cover over spa

To close this thread out, I found that 2x4’s were too heavy. I opted for 2 outdoor rated 2x2x8. I wrapped the tarp around them and then used grommets to create a pocket for them to sit in. Then I used grommets to reduce the size of the tarp to slightly bigger than the spa by folding over the...

Ideas to insulate auto cover over spa

It’s heavy duty but i think a light tarp would work almost just as well. The real key is it makes a thin layer of air between the covers and minimizes the wind. It’s mostly in the low 40’s here at night

Ideas to insulate auto cover over spa

Thanks! I’ll look into it. My concern would be that the autocover drags on the water and the solar cover wouldn’t stay in place, but that provides a much cleaner look as my wife hates the extra tarp on top (but she hates paying the gas bill even more!!). That would be a great solution if I...
