    Filter dead?

You could order a whole lower piping assembly 154807 instead of fabbing something up. That is the best approach. What you fabbed up, does it have a feed for the internal air relief? If not, DO NOT USE IT. Its item 13 here: http://store.poolcenter.com/pentair-low ... 58283.aspx If you do that...

filtering ability of the 3 common pool filter types

These are all BS marketing claims anyways, that a filter has a "micron rating". That rating has to do with whatever the engineer/marketing people decide to choose for a number based on usually an ASTM first pass filtration efficiency test as well as some other tests, which gives you a % of...

    Pentair "Clear-pro Technology", Sand Filter

When it comes to talking about "micron ratings" it all comes down to how you actually interpret the test data. Clearpro shows a noticeable improvement in the 10-20 micron range when it comes to first pass efficiency. That doesn't mean its necessarily GOOD at filtering particles in those range...

Question about Pentairs Quad De filters.

you are correct, you would need the cartridge, air bleed assembly, and the lid. The backwash assembly is no longer needed, although if its an older filter, I WOULD recommend getting the 196024S as it aids in stirring up the DE on the bottom of the tank.

Clean and Clear Plus, D.E. media required?

You may have just seen the new combined box for EasyClean/Clean and Clear. Pentair does this on a lot of boxes. They have a universal box, and the placement of the box label indicates the model. If the label is in the "Clean and Clean" box, its a cartridge filter. If its in the EasyClean box its...

    Tagelus TA 60 repair

You won't be able to replicate the glue we use on the production line. Its a reactive hot melt urethane. That said, all you need it to do is hold it in place until sand fills around it and stabilizes it. As long as it doesn't move when you fill it with sand, you are fine. You could probably...

    sand in pool

What about your internal air bleed? There is usually a pipe/tube (small, like 1/4-1/2" in diameter) that connects to the outlet that has a suction strainer (screen) on it that provides an internal air release. sometimes these screens either break or go missing, and can cause sand bypass.

    Backwashing Woes

As others have said you don't need to cap the backwash, the valve shouldn't leak out it. However, if you want to disconnect your hose, you need a union. A union is a connection that seals, but one that seals with a nut that spins instead of spinning the whole pipe. If Home Depot doesn't have...

    Pentair MultiPortValve

As I said via PM, email me a picture of what you're talking about and I will report it to our Quality Alert Log to make sure somebody takes a look at it. This definitely shouldn't have happened.

Jandy Cartridge Filter, CS Series 100 150 SOLVED

Re: Jandy Cartridge Filter, CS Series 100 150 Its not uncommon for manufacturers to just cram more media into a cartridge. We do it (our CNC 150 and 200 cartridges are the same size and go into the same housing). Just be aware that you don't always get longer cleaning cycles by doing this...

    Pentair MultiPortValve

Well, you could use it, its just plumbed backwards. So filter would mean backwash and backwash would mean filter. The difference between the two valves is the Triton/Quad valve is designed for filters where the inlet is on the top and outlet is on the bottom. The DE valve is designed for inlet...

    Air in the filter.....

I'm going to have to disagree. Having air in a filter is never a good thing. You are losing effective filtration area, and more importantly, you have a serious potential safety hazard. Air under pressure in a filter means the potential for unplanned filter seperation, which can lead to injury...

sand filter outlet pipe from lateral hub

Generally those connections are glued. Its possible that the glue joint just broke over time (although if it failed like it sounds like it did, it was a crappy glue joint). There's a reason we killed the side mount cristal flo though, it wasn't the greatest filter. You can glue the two pieces...

    DE in pool water......yikes...

The stainless steel design was tested for DE bypass and performed BETTER than the old sock design (I'm the engineer who changed it). This isn't the source of your issue.

Adding Air Bleed Valve on Sand Filter that doesn't have one

Pentair has an air bleed that can be a gage Tee, the one used on the TR60. It is 1/4" NPT, so could probably be threaded into most standard gage ports with the use of a 1/4" NPT nipple. I wouldn't recommend using any filter that doesn't have an external (AND internal) air bleed. If you do use an...
