Adding a gas heater - plumbing layout

Yes, I will be putting a paver under the filter. The 3 way is open to the filter. The blue valve is closed (it should be open). I haven't filled up my pool yet. I was actually just taking a break when I took this pic :) Basically if there's flow to the solar, blue valve will be open, otherwise...

OK so this is what I ended up with, which now makes your comments make sense...

Well I'd like to get it optimal. I'm not sure what you mean though as "going to the middle port"..unless you mean to the middle port of the T?

Adding a gas heater - plumbing layout

So something like this? I don't see how making the filter to NG heater the common pipe being better (since I also would have to put a new 90) I've put the check valve in, as well as denoted where I will have unions. The unions serve the purpose in-case of replacement/failures, as well to assist...

Adding a gas heater - plumbing layout

Is this any better? From a little research it seems preferred to keep water running through the heater. This will allow me to isolate the gas and solar heater if need be. Also it allows me to keep water running through the solar panels as well to keep them cool during the day. This picture...

Adding a gas heater - plumbing layout

Found my first problem. This design forces me to send water to the NG Heater or Solar...doesn't allow me to bypass the whole heating. DOh!

Adding a gas heater - plumbing layout

Hey - I currently have an 8x20 solar panel heating that I put in last summer. It does a good job, when we have sun. This year I purchased a gas heater and want to add it in. I put the solar in using 3/4" black tube, moreso as a trial. This year I'll be replumbing it with 1.5" PVC. The manual...

    Gas Pipe Size

Just to compare, I had another guy in. His quote: Run 1" black iron approx 30 feet Point piping grey as per code Install rubber outdoor flex hose at unit for frost movement $725 CDN (incl parts and labour) + tax Oh and he said I didn't need a new meter

Pool is 54" deep I think. We've, like everyone else I think, had a brutally cold and lengthy winter. Spring even came late this year, but the icebergs are melting quickly. I was in the back yard doing some stuff and heard this splashing noise, well one of the top parts of a piece came off and...

Thanks! I live in Sudbury, ON, Canada. Ice is melting at a good rate now, but still a couple of icebergs

That's not hooked up yet, neither is my 266K BTU heater, obviously ;)

At least if we are floating around and our drinks get warm, just break off a piece of ice and you are good!

    Gas Pipe Size

OK thanks. It's my understanding though, that it's "just a matter" of going from possibly 3/4 to 1" to 1 1/4" I'm guessing, right? It's nothing crazy like I need a new gas meter or something like that. Is that fair to say? He quoted me $800 for parts (+tax) and labour, cash job. I'm still...

    Gas Pipe Size

My heater is about 30ft from where it would be connected inside the house. There would be 3 or 4 elbows if he used black iron pipe. I seem to recall him saying it'd be the flexible stuff, but I may be mistaken.
