How long for CYA to become effective?

My pool looks great, but it uses about 3.5-4ppm/day of FC. I'm trying to get it down to around 2ppm/day so I'm thinking about raising the CYA. I've done the OCLT many times over the past few weeks, and it always shows no loss of FC overnight and 0-0.5cc, depending on the day. The pool gets...

Any ideas on how to keep ducks from using my pool as a toilet? We don't have a dog or a solar cover...

    adding chlorine after ascorbic acid

Hello, I just completed an ascorbic acid treatment on my pool yesterday, including adding a full dose of polyquat 60 and 2qt metal sequestrate. This afternoon I'm going to start to rebalance the pool and add chlorine (using bleach). I just opened the pool 2 days ago so my CYA is <20 (according...

    Opening Pool

I think the problems I had last year were from a solar cover that contained algae. Consequently I'm not going to use a solar cover this year. I haven't done an ascorbic acid treatment, although I'm thinking about doing it this year when I open the pool. There are iron stains on the floor of...

    Opening Pool

My fill water hasn't given me issues. I leave it half filled during the winter, but I do add an enzyme killer that also helps staining at the top of the water level. My winter cover is not opaque (it's not see through at all) and the water is still pretty cold, so I'm guessing algae formation...

    Opening Pool

Is there any harm in filling my pool with the winter cover on if I won't be able to take the cover off until next week? I know algae won't grow since the cover is blocking the sun, but will the water stain the walls of the pool since it's not being circulated? Thanks for your help!

    circulation help

CYA is somewhere between 50 and 60. I'm in the shock process now so the water is blue, but slightly cloudy (dead algae). Once the shock process is done I think I'll shock to mustard algae levels for CYA 60-70 (just incase) for 24hrs, then close the pool after the FC level falls to normal shock...

    circulation help

I've already ruled all other ways to get algae that I can think of. Did a complete mustard algae treatment twice, cleaned the solar cover pool toys, behind lights, washed suits, etc.

    circulation help

Using liquid chlorine on the BBB method. Pump runs 12 hours/day, and jet is aimed diagonally down and right. I'd love to add a second jet, but I have no clue how. Is that expensive, or difficult to do myself? Also not sure how I would hook another return line to the hayward sand filter.

    circulation help

I've been having circulation problems all year on the bottom of my pool. I have a 28ft 17,500 gallon round above ground pool with only one return jet. I've tried aiming the jet in all directions possible (except up) to improve circulation on the bottom of the pool, but nothing has worked...

    Ascorbic Acid

I'm going to do an ascorbic acid treatment this weekend. My FC will be around 7 (CYA 50) by Friday (I would lower FC now, but I'm going out of town until friday). I know I want my FC to be close to 0 before adding the ascorbic acid. My question is should I wait until my FC is 0 to add the...

    Algae problem

Thanks chem geek. I finished the shock process yesterday and the pool looks great. I've allowed the FC to drop to 13 since i've completed shocking, and it should be down to 8 by the end of today (within the normal range). I have realized that the algae was probably from the top of the solar...

    Algae problem

Thanks linen. I'll try that and continue shocking for today to pass the OCLT again. Hopefully this fixes my problem.
