Thanks for the help. Still have a question what position do I leave the suction and return valves in? I know the main drain valve gets shut off to air lock, but what about teh skimmer valves and return valves? Probably makes less of a difference as the skimmers and returns get plugged but...

Thanks! How quickly do you shut the air compressor off after you put the return line plugs in? I’m assuming if you leave it running the pressure will pop the plug.

Thanks for the response. I do add bleach daily, but I was concerned I couldn't mix it well without the pump circulating the water. Next time I'll add bleach and buy the pump online for 1/2 price!

You can try some very fine steel wool and rub with it gently. Typically referred to as 000 or 0000 steel wool and sold in the paint isle in Home Depot or Lowes. Just go in the same direction as the brushed metal finish.
