    Still confused on bromine

Ok...this makes way more sense! So, we have tablets and have been adding the granular bromine with chlorine....over kill, obviously. Stupid directions. This is why I am on this site...could never balance the pool until I started using this site's method. Is it true that high bromine levels...

    Still confused on bromine

Yep, that is the post I am still confused about. I don't see where it talks about adding bromine to maintain. I see shocking the system, which I read as chlorine. Is there somewhere I should look in those 7 pages for more specifics for people like me that just don't get it?

    Still confused on bromine

Even if I refill, I am still not sure the process of adding bromine. The pool is easy with the info on this site...test and add chlorine (and whatever else), if needed. However, I don't know how to add the bromine when I have tablets and granular. Do I add both? And, do I keep adding the...

    Still confused on bromine

I am using the above products: bromine tablets, granular bromine and granular chlorine. I am doing something wrong...the chemical smell makes my eyes water and makes it hard to breathe. Am I supposed to add the granular bromine and chlorine to the spa after every use (per instructions), even...

So frustrated...what am I not doing??

Mostly, I pour straight from the container (I am pretty good at eyeballing). This last week since being back from vacation, I started using a hard, plastic measuring cup from the kitchen for the partial measurements. I pour around the pool, mostly in front of the returns. Then, I brush. I...

So frustrated...what am I not doing??

Sounds good...I will keep slamming. Just needed to know if I was doing everything correctly. Geez this takes a long time (and, yes, I am impatient)!

So frustrated...what am I not doing??

I slammed before and after vacation, not during (just had house sitter add 2 c chlorine every day). Redid test at waistline....I came up with a cya of 60 and husband came up with 55 (he has much better vision than I do!). I would trust his 55 over my 60.

So frustrated...what am I not doing??

Test was with Taylor kit....same one I used today to ascertain a cya of approximately 50. The cya has dropped due to a water drain and additional vacuuming.

    Sorry...I do things like that....:)

Apparently, dirty water can cloud the results (literally) when testing for your cya. - - - Updated - - - I don't know if it was the cloudy water that gave a high cya reading the first time, or maybe we just drained more than I planned.

So frustrated...what am I not doing??

I wasn't sure, so I retested and then made my husband retest...we both came up with 55, so I have been using that number. I didn't know about the coffee filter the first time, so maybe that influenced my first reading? I also suspect we are just shy of 30k gallons. My husband just rechecked...

So frustrated...what am I not doing??

Started June 6. Slammed until vacation (left with clear pool, returned to clear pool) June 14...resumed June 21st. Yesterday, brought to Mustard Algae shock level (for my cya of 55, that meant going from FC 22 to 32). Last night it looked like I may have had it...no CC. This morning showed...

    Can't get CC to drop

I will try that today. Thank you!

    Can't get CC to drop

I was slamming for over a week before going on vacation. Already resumed slamming on Sunday. How much should I raise the chlorine? I have been trying to keep it at the slam level of 22 (per my cya of 55).
