    Solar Cover advice

I did a search but either I'm crappy at searching or the info wasn't there... I am working on getting solar heat for my rectangular 20 x 60 pool. I need a solar blankie also; it turns out there aren't any in that size. The installer of the solar system can get something custom ordered, but...

New pool (big 20 x 60), some pics and questions

Pool builder came by today and cleared up a lot of the questions. He added some chlorine and stabilizer; the SWG won't be started for about 30 days because the salt does strange things to the plaster, plus it apparently runs at a higher pH than curing plaster appreciates. So for the first...

New pool (big 20 x 60), some pics and questions

Okay, its been a bit of a long story -- was too busy with life to keep up some posts. Anyway, we got to a certain point and then it became apparent that the pump on our well was not sufficient to fill the pool in a reasonable amount of time. Of course, I didn't realize this would be a problem...

    New Pool Quote in AZ

Ask several companies for an estimate; I did and found they were all pretty close to each other. I only considered companies with great BBB ratings, licensed, and those that seem to be fairly large. I ultimately went with the builder that I personally knew the best.

Thanks for the compliments on the boy. However, I wonder if it was a mistake to post his picture....

New pool (big 20 x 60), some pics and questions

Finished Concrete today -- does this look OK to you guys? Merged threads for history. Butterfly I guess there are more layers (like plaster etc) coming, but these cracks are worrying us and there's no one available at the pool place to ask. Today was day 2 of the doing concrete, and these...

New pool (big 20 x 60), some pics and questions

Re: New pool (big 20 x 60), some pics to start (day 0) More pics coming from photobucket once my wife can get them up on there. They have added the rebar, and did the first day of concrete today; of course, we got hit with a freakishly violent thunderstorm right in the middle of their...

New pool (big 20 x 60), some pics and questions

Re: New pool (big 20 x 60), some pics to start (day 0) Before everyone feels sorry for the barn: It's about 25 yrs old, the timbers are kinda getting soft & the metal is loose in spots. Also, it's hot enough to stew chicken for most of the year in there. I'll replace it with a smaller hay...

New pool (big 20 x 60), some pics and questions

New pool day 1 Merged threads. Butterfly Florida sand! We live in northern/central FL with a little elevation, so we have dry & loose sand. Some cave-ins are inevitable. The above are pics of the deep end. They did finished this on Friday, and left the shallow end for today with...

New pool (big 20 x 60), some pics and questions

Okay, lets see how these come out & if it works. We live on a farm, and our "back yard" is about 1 acre, so we have lots of room for the pool. You can see our old barn in the background, which I plan to demolish someday. The first: my 9 month old son supervising: Next is the...

Okay, they started today. All they did for today was to scrape the ground surface and dump it in another part of our yard. We live on a farm and can use the soil/sand in spots, so they don't need to haul it off. I went with the SWG -- two of them. The pool guy agreed that one would be...

TWO? Sheesh. I hope not. How do you find out? I assume there are specs to check out somewhere. As far as the decking goes: it is fairly narrow along the sides, but we planned a little extra on either end -- the "patio" end and the far end. The far end will have the reel for the solar...

Thanks for the thoughtful response. It's hard to find a straightforward guesstimate as to how much chlorine I will need to add to the pool. I understand there are many, many variables involved, but what I am trying to get in my mind is a rough estimate so I can evaluate cost effectiveness of...

Thanks all. For those that suggest a chlorine generator, can you suggest WHY it's superior to auto chlorinator? It costs a lot more, and I am putting a priority on swimming area more so than other creature comforts. Thanks!

The solar heat is indeed to swim year round, or at least nearly so. We do get a little cool in the winters here; for example, we had lows in the mid teens this winter. Generally our highs, even on colder days, get into the 40's or 50's though. I prefer to swim laps in cooler water, but...
