So my cartridge filter gave up the ghost last week and I've bought a DE filter (Hayward DE6020) to replace it with, the issue I'm having is that the backwash valve coupling has a threaded connection amd I need to attach plain old PVC pipe to it. Is this normal, do I need a special connection kit...

If that's the case, I'm presuming this would be a good way to drain water out the pool if say after heavy rain I needed to reduce the water levels?
