According to the pool calculator I would need to add 16.4 gallons of 6% bleach to raise my numbers to shock level, does that sound about right? That seems like a lot of bleach to me. My target shock level is 15 according to the chart.

John I guess you answered my question about the CC level, thanks for the advice on the article. Believe it or not I just read it last night I had printed it out earlier in the season.

I haven't added anything else. I have been using bleach all summer and things were going well. I will go back to bleach tonight and hit it heavy. Once the algea is beaten will my CC level once again drop near zero?

I have been fighting an algea problem for the last five days. I have added 5 bages of ganual shock over the last 3 days to no avail. It doesn't seem to be getting better but it's not getting an worse. My numbers are... FC 7 PH 7.8 Alk 160 CYA 40 CC 4.5 TC 11.5+ Any suggestions?

Don't have the exact numbers in front of me at this time. I haven't tried DE in the filter. Think I will just give it some time. Thanks for the help.

I've finally turned the corner on a pool that was off the charts chemically. All of my readings are in range, algae is under control, but my water is still cloudy. Would it be wise at this point to add some clarifier? What does clarifier do if anything to other chemicals?

Stopped in at my local pool store yesterday and received the following advice. "Bleach will damage your VL, you shouldn't use it" Is this true?

Just added CYA yesterday to my skimmer. I’m in the process of balancing out my chemicals and should be able to shock my pool this evening. I’m anticipating killing the algae. Do I then vacuum the pool and backwash soon? Or should I wait to vacuum and backwash allowing the CYA the allotted...

In the swim clarifier and shock. Antifreeze not sure of the brand but I know it was the correct type, I've closed the pool many times before with the same stuff. Thanks for helpful tip on boosting chlorine and the skimer insert. Any other suggestions? Thanks again.

I just applied non chlorine shock and clarifier about 6 oz. I'm sure the antifreeze was the proper type.

Help needed! I blew 2 gallons on non toxic antifreeze into my pool when I opened it this weekend. It settled on top of the pool creating an oil slick. I have put in 8 bags of shock to kill the algea but it can't break the surface. The shock combined with the antifreeze has created a white oil...
