The problem with going by color with no numbers is that your chlorine could be going from 30 to 15 or 10 to 5 and you couldn't tell. You may not be maintaining shock level. I know, because I have the same issue!

Welcome and good luck with your pool. I'm in the same situation as you - renting and responsible for setting up the pool if we wanted to use it. It took a while for my green swamp to turn clear, but with the advice I received here it now looks wonderful. Stock up on bleach!

Yeah, if you read my saga - I was adding those jumbo jugs of bleach every hour and was still losing it all to the algae that was living in the pool! They finally all died and now I'm just fighting sunlight. :) Good luck!

Those test strips are junk. I know, because I've been using them. I thought I had 30/50 CYA as well, but the reading was actually 0. I'm quite sure that's your case too. Take a sample to the pool store and get a more accurate reading. Don't buy anything while you're there though! They don't know...

Yeah, the pictures don't make it look sparkly, but it certainly looks it in person! I do believe the drop in FC was from the sun, and not from organics. Samantha - I don't think I can do a CC test without a better kit. Unfortunately, I am just too broke right now - June is turning into crazy...
