Thanks for all your help - I can now report a clear pool with chemical results within the correct tolerances. To celebrate we all got bad colds, but hope to be able to swim once recovered!

What i should have said is: not as green as it was! I've ordered the CYA and I'm sure i can sacrifice a sock to the cause. I'll give an update through the week once I've followed the advice. thanks!

I wouldn't go as far as to call it green, it seems pretty clear (now), just a few stray leaves. Picture of current state attached. Thanks for the replies - it was a bit daunting having a pool that I didn't have the faintest idea what to do with.
